Is Anderson Spring a back mount system?
Is Anderson Spring a back mount system?
Seriously it depends on how good you are in doubles. The cave was originally explored in backmount. Sidemount will get most divers farther in. Be careful on deco there, it blows pretty hard sometimes and can literally blow you off of your deco stop. The more secure spots are a little deeper at the mouth of the cave. More than one diver has been bent there. It's a long way to a chamber.

Some sections of Anderson deserve sidemount only in the main conduit,so sidemount may be the better tool for this cave for preservation purposes. There have been issues of stability in the cave system,so watch for falling rock and debris. Anderson follows its own rules, when all the other caves are clear it can look like crap.

I've dove Anderson in both backmount and sidemount. Sidemount is definitely the preferred method. I was in there in April and there had been a lot of sand and clay shifts limiting the passageway in parts. I had to divert around the normal path and go to the other side of the cave in the small parts to get by due to the sand shift making the cave very sidemount in parts. Definitely take Kelly's advice on the deco stops. The entrance to the cave was at about 18-20' in April, but due to the high flow coming out of the small restriction entrance, I always plan to do my deco at about 20-25' just inside the cave. You'd probably get rolled out of the cave and blown up to the surface by the flow if you tried to do a 15' stop. There is a corner just past where the main line begins inside the cavethat you can tuck yourself up against the wall and the flow isn't too bad for a deco stop. On the flow, my dive in April was 30 min in and 10 minutes back to the entrance. Viz was around 10-15' at max with a tannic tinge. Also be aware of all the broken glass that is usually on the floor around the cave entrance.
i heard one story of a diver getting buried in that system. it was enough. i will live vicariously through you guys![]()
Yeah, she flows!!!
I drove home breathing O2 after my first dive there.
"Is this thing on?"
On exit I moved a large rock to get a better path out. Very bad idea!!! I then spent 10 minutes clearing the entrance/exit so I could get out.![]()
i've done the opposite after the floods just to try to get in. after the 2003 flood, it took me 20 minutes of clearing tree trunks and rocks just to be able to get inside the cave entrance.
