    Question LP 85's as stages

I was comparing the weight of al 80's and LP 85's and find them similar. Just wondering if anyone has tried using them as stage bottles instead of 80's.

    You find the weight similar?

    I definitely don't.

Similar weights, different volumes, lousy stage.

I didn't think it was a great idea- just curious.

The LP 85's do make great side mount bottles though!

You must be comparing the 80s to Faber 85s. They are definitely not similar to Worthingtons.

Yes, as I accept old age and the diving limits it brings I've said goodbye to my double 108's, my rebreather, my dedicated dive vehicle and said hello to faber 85's for sidemount. My pre-1980 alum 80's are past due for hydro. Many shops will no longer fill them and I was looking at the possibility of using an 85 I have as a stage, rather than buying another couple of alum 80s. You can call me cheap, but income is (more) limited since I retired.

I hear ya, with my good ear! I'd use what you have, as the wreck/Superior divers use steel stages. Thicker undergarments because of the cold, etc., so why not carry some extra weight, as everything you're breathing gets lighter. You won't be DIR though, and that's a concern!

Sell the pre-80 AL80s on ebay and buy a post 90 AL80 with the money. I had some Luxfer pre-89 AL80s a while back that I sold on ebay for about $40 each plus shipping. The money I got from three of them was enough to buy 2 post-90 AL80s. Just be upfront about the manufacture date. There are people who will buy them.
