    Default Little River Update 5/9

Water level today still high at about a foot and a half up the stone wall . Water flow was just moderate as we made our way easily past Table Rock and to the the 1st T in about 20 minutes. The second T took only another 6-7 minutes and with little effort made it into the Florida Room appx 400' before hitting thirds . We turned and exited via the Merry go Round and the entire dive was just under an hour. The vis was at least fair to good throughout the dive. We had such a good dive that we went back to Dive Outpost to gas up and returned for a second dive that included the Merry go Round shortcut. A picture perfect Sunday with many locals enjoying the park and water - we were surprised to be the only divers there considering the great condition of the cave.....

That's good to know, I have been wanting to hit little river. I just recently started cave diving, and most of the caves have been flooded.

Are the rotten fish still on the left at the bottom of the chimney? Nasty!! Hope they're gone.

Enjoy it while it lasts. The river is rising again.

Madison may be under in a day or two. It was still clear today.

Looks like you were right...Madison under yesterday 5/13 and Little River looks like it will be under very soon if not already!

    Default Sorry but..

...I've been hearing from divers that it's static right now, which probably means it'll flip sometime this week.....

    Safe diving,

The AHPS graph (Sw. River @ Branford) has the level rising steady since Tue, but leveling off and dropping slightly this afternoon at 16.27ft. Still significantly below "Action Stage." At what level would it cause Little River Spring to flip?

I was also looking at the Sw. River @ Luraville map, but that one doesn't seem to have "Action, Flood etc. etc." stage levels. Would you know what those are for that station?

    Thanks.

There is no easy way to answer that for Little River. A lot depends on how full the aquifer is, and I suspect it isn't very full right now. The action stage is more for street flooding, than for spring flooding.

Peacock is easier, since the slough if a fixed distance above the river. It has to get to around 25-26 feet at Luraville, for Peacock to flood.

Looked at Little River today (05/16) about 5:00 PM Sunday Afternoon. It's covered almost all of the handicap ramp and the water is very tanic ALL AROUND the spring basin. No syphon yet , but it looks close. (but what do I know)

I don't think I would take a peek in it. Looks really yucky.

And of course , today, Peacock was packed ( LOL )
We did P3...It was a bit dusty , and a very mild syphon , but no problems with the dive. (SMILE)

    Thanks!
