    Default Missouri Cave Diving Conditions

I just got of the phone with a friend. He suggested going cave diving next week in Missouri. Anyone know the conditions down there? It being springtime, I’m a bit curious. I’ve only dived Roubidoux, as a layover on the way to the Florida caves, and that spring looked a bit susceptible to snow melt and spring rains. He suggested a cave named Cannonball and a mine named Lamont; places he knows. Any knowledge out there on the condition of these sites or other sites in Missouri? Thanks. - Kirk

I heard Roubidoux was divable, but a hard rain will mess it up in a matter of hours.

This is from the Ozark forum, posted Wednesday the 17th.:

"I went by Roubidoux this morning and it looks diveable; divers were in it this past weekend and reported on this board. They also reported good diving in Cannonball."

I was in it this last weekend! Vis in RBD was great Cannonball was 25 to 30 an boiling spring was awesome. The last one is sidemount only! None were real bad as far as flow goes! But it has been wet an that will change the conditions fast.

I thought I replied yesterday, but maybe not.

Mine LaMotte is always diveable. It's usually pretty murky at the mine entrances, but clears up to 20-50' once you get a little ways back.

I head the same thing about CB and RBD as was stated above. What days are you going to be in MO?

K now for the fun. I know that WEST of Hwy 65 is to be in a WINTER STORM warning starting Satruday night with an inch of rain and up to 4 inches of SNOW accumilation. The Rain is to trac the I-44 corridoor so that means it will hit the RBD area and up to St Louis but should be only rain.

Yesterday it started out as just snow but no accumilation and then it has been changed. Guess it is to get colder then they thought.

Be safe and have fun. If you dive any of them lets hear a report.

I haven't dove cannonball yet this year; waiting for the lake water to warm up.(Last weekend the lake temp. was 44 degrees F. I was just curious why Jeff said that cannonball was side-mount only. The entrance restriction is approximately 2.5 feet high and we have never had any problem in back-mounted doubles. Do stay right on the gold line going through the entrance restriction, being sure to always keep the gold line in sight. (It will be above you as you crawl in, and you will have to cross over it once you are past the restriction and moving to your right.) dive safe and have fun, Darren

He was talking about Boiling Spring, not Cannonball.
