Serious OOA question

I had one OOA situation back in 1970 when I was young and stupid. I had just dove the cave at Blue Springs in Volusia County and was on my second dive on the same 72 (but not in the cave on this 2nd dive). I was swimming around by myself at 50' but not bothering to check the spg on my 72. When I started having to suck hard, I figured out the error of my ways. Luckily I was young and immortal so I saw this (at the time) as an opportunity to test the theory of air expansion in the tank as I ascended. While I got a couple more breaths, I didn't get as much air as I wanted to get. Haven't made that mistake since.

Lets see, dive buddy broke his manafold
My first stage exploded and knocked me silly, by the time I got the manifold isolator off I have very little air, my buddy was ahead of me doing survey.
I know of two others. It happens.

All this was in a cave?

My first big dive trip I ever took to Hawaii there was a guy on the boat one day that I swear managed to go through a whole Al 80 in about 15 minutes. And that at only 35-40 ft. He just looked like one big cloud of bubbles with a pair of furiously kicking legs sticking out.

Probably just as well, the first thing he did was swim straight for the bottom, pull out his dive knife and start jabbing everything in sight with it.

But no, I've never been out or seriously low on gas.
