Go ahead do your best, when I get done with my ACL replacement and PT I will have a bionic knee and I will be able to swim as fast as a DPV.

This is a very intersting string for me. I tore my ACL this winter so I have the same questions. I guess I had better give up those dangerous sports like skiing in favor of cave diving
Haven't yet gone diving. I'm most worried about gearing up on a pitching boat in rough seas, I think that is going to be where the greatest challenge will be. I plan to see how this summer goes and if I can't do it I will plan on having the reconstructive surgery done.

Apparently I have had this for a long time, then in sept a cave collapsed with me on top and I kind of tore my Meniscus a bit and only started feeling weirdness in the knee after.
So I went to get an MRI and found out, had it not been for that "weird" cracking now and then when frogkicking I would never had known.
However the orthopedic surgeon did tell me that with a torn ACL and no symptoms you could make it way worse by tearing some other ligament, so it's best to get it replaced as the knee can be unstable with a non functional ACL.
Mine is completely torn, sometimes PT can work if it's not totally messed up, had I known I would have done the surgery years ago.

Just got acl replacement surgery yesterday, hurts but not as bad as I was expecting, I hope the worse pain is in the first 24 hours post surgery.
I really am gonna miss diving for th next four months or so but i wll have a bionic knee when i get back.
And I can't wait for the next dive

I had my ACL repaired in March of last year after a skiing accident. I was able to return to diving in September with no problems and spent a week in April of this year cave diving with out even giving it a thought. I had the allograft and couldn't be happier with it. Just do the PT after your surgery and you'll be back to diving quickly.

That is what a sherpa is for! I have hired a sherpa every trip due to ortho issues. But then again, I am not DIR nor dive with a macho crowd so it is not frowned upon.

Sherpas rock! Having one proves your strength by showing you don't need to prove your strength

Just out of curiosity, where do you find your sherpa, and what does it cost you? I may be DIR, but I ain't macho . . .
