I don't see a copyright notice on the sign. There is a "Diver Safety Message Brought to You by..." message, but I don't believe that constitutes a copyright.

The sign is widely used on t-shirts, mugs, etc., etc. While it wouldn't hurt to ask the agencies mentioned (NSS-CDS, NACD, and PADI) about its use, I would guess that it is not protected and would not be subject to any legal action.

Etienne, when are you coming back to Florida to dive in real caves??

    Default Copyright

Speaking of copyrights... I remember using "VisiCalc" (the first spreadsheet software ever made...). It was a college project that was put out in the public domain. A little known company decided to copyright it under the name Lotus 123... and vigorously defended their "ownership" against anyone who tried to duplicate it for many years.

My point is... I wonder if one of the dive organizations should file for copyright to protect the free use and distribution that we now seem to enjoy?

It is copyrighted by PADI, and all the mugs, t-shirts, etc. are made with permission from PADI. Even the NSS-CDS, and the NFSA asks for permission for each thing it gets used on.

No Alex it's not a secret, but the exploration didn't start yet so I cannot talk about anything.

My cave buddy found 7 virgines cenotes in more or less the same area. He say that some entrance are as big as Xunaan Ha.
One of the reason we didn't start anything yet is that we miss time and we miss money. My idea was to do a promotion item to raise some founding. If that sign belong to PADI, it will be difficult I suppose.

It's good to know that NSS-CDS can help us one way or a other.

    Thank's everyone for the information.

I don't know what it would take to make it happen, but I wonder if you could make some sort of MX Diving Trip raffle of it.

You put up a few days to a week of guided diving (or get others to do it with you). Get a local dive shop and hotel on board, get an airline to throw in a flight voucher or credit and advertise the hell out of it. The locals and airline will get some good cheap advertising (you may want to check with the boards here, TDS, RBW, etc to get some rough estimates with regards to page views and such to let them know how many 10s of thousands of potential wallets their ads will see).

I'm guessing the rules in MX may even be more relaxed than they are in the states so you don't need to worry about the lawyers

    Cheers,
    Jeff

I'll take you up on that. I'll consider CCR cave diving once I get a whole lot more experienced on the rEvo!

Doesn't the CDS hold the copyright on the Grim Reaper image though? Thought Gene mentioned something about that a couple of years back.

Your garage???? What about your trailer?

Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!
