Hello, I am looking for maps from the 60s, 70s, and early 80s of the following caves. The purpose is to document the original exploration members and cartographers. It's for a project I am doing for the Museum. A scan of the map will do I don't really need the original map (that would be cool though) it needs the date, who did the map and who the explorers are. My guess is, Mike Poucher would have most of the early maps of those places.

Contact Mike. I have copies of the original survey data from Jackson Blue, Twin, and Hole in the Wall. It's amazing how they came up with the maps they did from that data!

I am going to be talking with both Mike and Wes over the next couple weeks. I was hoping to find some in private collections. I know one or two who have mapped caves and never published the maps. It was more common in the past. I am still looking. I already found two and have been sent one that predates the common ones. Besides, Wes and Mike will all the contests. It's time to give the other guys a shot.

Hey Cindy,

Ya know, in this day of internet connections and ease of putting stuff up, it'd be really nice to have a digital museum. Basically, a bunch of photographs of equipment, plus a few scans of these older maps. It'd be fascinating to see how far various systems had been pushed back then. When I look at some of the old line in Manatee, I'm just amazed that they got back there with such limited gear.

It would also be a nice way to generate publicity for the museum itself.

I'll offer the first $100 towards setting such a site up - and I'll offer to keep paying it every year for as long as the site stays up.

I was thinking the same thing. A simple wordpress site would make this goal pretty easy. You could "tag" each post with let's say "Devils" and then when a user clicks devils they can see all the other posts with that same tag. You can edit the post dates to reflect the dates these items were created (at least the maps or gear), and then those tags would even show a chronological list.

Would be a pretty simple integration with Walter's site, too, if he were willing. When you click a cave, you could then choose "View History" and be directed to the museum's website, to a search page that shows all of the data for that specific cave.

Wordpress supports photos, videos, etc pretty easily, and I think it'd be a great way to get the content online in a USABLE manner.

I would donate my time to help with this, be it setting up the site or scanning things as needed.
