Possible, but this was was supposedly doing a refresher course while his daughter was doing her OW course. What's the likelihood of that being the case and never having had an issue diving previous to this? I'm still questioning the surgery claim. Some people consider any invasive procedure surgery.

My bad, didn't read the whole thread. Congenital blebs will usually rupture when people are in their teens, so unless the diver had his daughter at a very young age(!) it seems less likely that blebs would have been the problem.

Makes for good discussion, but like many diving incidents bandied about on the Net, not all the facts are known. Sorry if I added to the confusion.

LOL, it is good to speculate sometimes, people learn a bit... like I said before, until this guy recovers (soon I hope) and he decides to post we really won't know the full story.

    Dive safe,

It is a valid possibility for someone younger. I agree it makes for good discussion.

Yeah the guy that passed away last year died of a heart attack, he surfaced and swam to the exit platform and collapsed at the base of the stairs. He was drug in and we did CPR on him for about 45 mins, he was unresponsive and there were no vitals as they put him on life flight, he was pronounced at the hospital. There were alot of instructors and divemasters that stepped up and assisted, regretably he was too far gone. Everyone involved acted very professionally.

I know this thread is almost a year ago, but from personal experience x-ray or CT scan will not show blebs, that’s also why DAN recommends giving up diving once you get spontaneous pneumothorax, because of the very possibility that the other lung can also have blebs, they remove the part of the lung that has blebs to avoid future leaks also to seal the leak.
