I thought it was very well done. It was a good representation of cave diving to the general public, even if it was more dramatic at certain points. I too would have wished there was more diving than science, but I definitely can see the audience appeal for the discovery aspect.
Applogies for the drama. That is not what we wanted to shoot. Editors created a lot of the crap and over the top sensationalism. I don't remember any cave collapses, but I may have been looking the wrong way.
Sawmill sink does not open up into a huge passage like that either. Lots of footage from one place was added for effect in another place. This is pretty standard for editing. You could also see a diver one moment on CCR the next moment supposedly same dive, they are in side mount. Really wish they could have concentrated on the awesome formations and air clear water rather than the freaking silt bottom of one site.
The best part of all of this is that we got significant exloration and research funds from National Geographic. The film deal was a requirement to get the funds.
Glad it's over and now we can move forward with some exploration and real research.

I disliked the program. But then again, I have never seen a program about an activity I participate in that I liked. Most of the time they over dramatize it "Oh my God!!! a Cave in!!!!" and focus on things that I could not care about.
"Good dives are the ones you survive".... Over the top sensationalism.
Reminds me of the news media coming out after we had a skydiving fatality (jump plane really). They interviewed me and I went into detail about the problem the plane had, the issues in general....ect. Then they filmed a guy walking to the plane, when he saw he was on camera, he yelled, "Yehaw.... SKYDIVE!!!!!"

I know what you mean. But I have to say, the Blue Springs, AK video was really, really good. It had less of the for-the-general-public stuff about cave diving, I thought.
That's an aside. I thought they did a great job on the NOVA program. The filming was great. Kenny's always funny. Nice stuff that I never seen in Florida!
Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!
The audio started modulating here about 2/3's through the show. I liked it overall, even with the percolation "collapsing" on the divers. I'd like to see a 'making of' featurette for it. I find with a lot of the IMax shows I watch the making of runs twice as long and has better footage. Plus they tend to show the actual sequence of events and how they use it dramatize the show.
No audio issues from WEDU Ch 3 in Tampa. I really enjoyed the balance of the show and the stunning video work. The sensationalism was somewhat expected, and in reality is probably closer to what the general public thinks about cave diving, no matter how many times you can try to convince them otherwise.
I have several non-diving friends who were going to watch and I think the content will appeal to them as well. My family was not at home, so I didn't have to deal with that issue. Just me and the 54" plasma
