Petition to open up Olsen for diving...

So, hanging around at cave country this weekend... Noticed a petition sitting on the counter at Dive Outpost gathering signatures to open up formal access and facilities at Olsen sink in Peacock...


I'm curious what is motivating this petition....

Is there something not having access at Olsen people are finding limiting?

It would seem much of the Florida bunch can't make a dive unless there are stairs, handrails, and gearing-up tables.

I do wish I hadso many systems to choose from like they do down there to use the same system but a differant entrance to call it another dive like at Ginnie, go in the ear, then the eye and call it 2 differant places.

Why open it up? Well, like Kelly said, just re figure or manage your gas and go from there. I wish we had so many places with all the nice stairs and benches to gear uyp at. Maybe we need to make them all like Cannonball with the HILL.

Leave it closed, I'd hate for more of the cave to be beaten to death. Seeing 6 inch deep hand marks is painful enough now. Having to look at them for another 1500 feet past Olsen would be a travesty.

Leave it closed, no reason to cause more damage to the land surrounding the entrance and cave itself.

It gives you something to work towards if you want to see the cave beyond Olsen.

I will be more than happy to sign a petition to Leave It Closed.

At the time when Olsen closed many instructors missed having another entrance to teach to use,but it was a difficult entrance and exit. I personally used Olsen for when I was doing the source tunnel,but now I just plan my gas differently,and don't miss the site.

I have been working hard on this interpretive trail that is being installed,and have come to understand some of the rationale behind things that occur. Without a long discussion,access to Olsen will not happen anytime soon.
