Peacock and LR flood levels?

To save any confusion perhaps I should clarify that the picture I posted yesterday of flood waters up to the gate at Little River was taken in ?2004 and is not an indication of the current state of affairs.

The Suwanee river is past crest at Ellaville, and just at crest in Luraville. It is over a foot below the stage that would flood Peacock, so unless it rains a lot in south GA, Peacock may be good for the winter.

The water at Peacock 1 was just covering the first step yesterday (1/2/10).

Peacock is a strange spring, compared to the others. Instead of a "run" (connected directly to the river), it has a "slough" which is a good bit above the river, normally. When the river does get high enough to come back to Peacock through the slough, the water at P1 rises dramatically. Before that, it is pretty isolated from the river. The water level at the steps hasn't changed much, since Thanksgiving, but the river has come up several feet since then.

There is some river intrusion in the Wishbone tunnel, and the Waterhole tunnel. Probably the Dark Water tunnel too, but I didn't dive that this trip.

Looks like according to the weather channel we are safe. The water would have to come through the ice at the slough to flood the system. And it shows below freezing for the next week every night. Man this is north FL not up north. They were saying Philly has about the same temps..although with 40 mile per hour winds. Looks like we need to jump in the water to warm up.

... which brings to mind a question: if I were to bring a kayak and put it in at Peacock 3, would it be possible to ride it down to the river?

It depends on how fast the river rises. Don't you remember TJ's pictures of the rushing water.
