I had a dive buddy break his leg getting in there one time. He slipped on the mossy rocks..just to demo what a great buddy and Nurse I am, he said he was fine so my other buddy and I did our dive. We came out at Peacock one and found him with other divers who heard him trying to drag his gear back to his truck. Xray showed he fractured his right leg. I don't need to tell you that as a student of Steve Forman's I have yet to live that one down. Cindy

Hey, your buddy said he was fine, so as a good RN should, you supported his autonomy and journey toward self-actualization by letting him take care of himself! See, I still remember some of that nursing school stuff. And they said I wasn't paying attention.

I've never gotten in or out at Waterhole, even though that tunnel is one of my favorite spots. I've always gone out and back from the Peanut tunnel.

It's been a long time since I dove Peacock at all, but one of my favorite entrances/exits is waterhole. And it's one of my favorite peacock dives. There's more life, little critters on rocks below, beside, above, in the silty bottom, and just hanging out in the water, than anywhere else in peacock. just the right size too.

I hope they let us dive it, tree or no.

It also had some of the best vis I have encountered in Fl caves. I dropped in one time and the vis was so clear I could have swore it was an ultra clear air bell. It is a really good dive.

Speaking of Olsen......when they closed it, it was to be a temporary closing to improve the entry. What ever happened to that issue? I loved entering Olsen so as to get an upstream dive without first entering PI. This might be a work project that we can get the park service to buy into. Cold winter comming up with no bugs to get in our way...Ken

I'd love to have access there. it was closed before my time

I am split on the issue.

On the one hand, I am really tired of swiming up the Peanut line or Pothole-Olsen line and it would be great to get in at Olsen to get easier access to the back half of the cave.

On the other hand, it is the longish swim to the back half of the cave that makes it nicer than the front half. Less diver traffic means less damage, more life, etc, etc, etc.

All in all, I'm ok with it the way it is and prefer it that way.

What I remember most about getting in/out at Olsen's was the @#$%! mosquitos !!

When we were able to use Olson to enter/exit it was still MUCH more pristine than near Peacock because negotiating the hill was a lot more difficult than just using the P1 steps.

That's a good point, it is part of the PIII charm as well.

When the tree fell the park wanted to close this sink,but it was recommended that if limbs could be moved,then allow it to be used for emergency egress. The other concern is that there was a significant amount of erosion developing due to use,and it was going to suffer the same effect of Olsen.
