Default looking to get out of the day to day rut want work in the dive community

    Lads/ladies

I am at the point in my life where I need a change. I mean a total change. I am thinking of emigrating to the states and have things in process to secure permanent work status but it will take a year or so ie family visa. I am just wondering if there is anyone out there in the Florida area that is looking for a shop assistant or divemaster. I want to work and dive as many caves as I can even be part of some new exploration of caves maybe. I am sick of living in Ireland with rain rain rain with months of no diving. I am a very pleasent Irish guy with loads of crack as we say here and hard working. Not expecting to make millions but as long as I can pay the bills and dive I will be happy.

If there is anyone out there that knows of any jobs going let me know or tell them to contact me a few months work in an area of diving or construction on a trail basis I would jump at the chance to change my life as its either now or never right your only young once.

Not sure I would use the term "loads of crack" in the US.
(Crack is a serious illegal drug - if you didn't know).

Best of luck to you and congrats for making that kind of leap. Good to do while you're young and not stuck in a rut.

BTW, what does loads of crack mean in Irish terms?

We're in a huge recession, but if you've got loads of crack, you might just make it!

If you're willing to work, work's out there. But you can't be too particular right now.
For example, after I was a CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) and a college graduate, I spent some time digging ditches in South Texas in the summer (1970), 'cause that's what was available to pay the bills. Made enough to do some diving, too.

Your not a hooligan are you? How much Jameason you bringing over with you, I would not have a problem raising a glass with you. What part from the Emerald Island?

Take what you can and give nothing back.

Best of luck for taking a big step in your life and moveing down, might help if we knew morea bout your abilities and what all you are trained to do.

I bet you will get soem good help from the bord here.

The crack in irish terms means ( a good laugh funny guy life and sole of things gets on with everyone )

My diving abilities are Divemaster, Trimix trained, cave trained. Have done construction in Boston for about 9 summers framing roofing siding etc. All round carpentry.
Been working away here in the south of Ireland for 10 years stuck in a labouratory want get out of this business its boring and locked up all day.

Hoping someone may need a shop assistant or divemaster. something along those lines. Maybe I will complete my instructor certs and maybe that way could get some work on a boat. i am very open to anything really. So throw anything at me and I will see how I feel about it. Just want try get something in the Florida region so I can do lots of cave diving.

Thanks to all for the response.

    Hi Brendan,

Good luck to you in your future move. I don't want to be super negative but the economy in FL is not good right now and dive shops are hurting. I wouldn't limit yourself to just FL, look in the Bahamas also, Caymans, other islands close by. There are several live aboard boats to look into also (no idea what the pay is) I worked for shops here in FL for 10 years and never made a ton of money so maybe working part time for a shop and part time somewhere else may be benificial.

Good luck to you and hope to see you around the caves!

Becky is right. There really isn't a lot of work at the shops right now. The work that is there is only part time or as needed. I would say check with some resorts in the Bahamas. If you are dead set on getting over here you are probably going to have to find some other type of work to support yourself and then do diving on the side. Thats what I do. I have a full time job and then do some work with a local dive shop as well as The Florida Aquarium. God knows I don't do those jobs for the money but I do love doing them.
    I wish you luck.
