We are getting pretty far off topic here, but I think all "toys" and useless notes should be removed from all caves. If you want to see junk, dive in one of the privately owned for-profit quarries.

Sadly it is like the initials in Cow. Once the first set was done, someone else thought it was "OK" to add theirs.

I would absolutely agree with you... Save for a few things that have been placed there historically over time and are even documented (on the Berman map etc. in Ginnie's case - the "bats,"... "coathangers" etc.). As a cavern student, I look forward to the day when I'll see them. But of course, not until it's time for me to see them.

I just hope they're still there when it's my time. As far as the note goes, it doesn't take a lot of cave experience to see that for what it is... a *very* bad idea. Like you said, "crying wolf."

In any event..... "Leave the Bats... Take the cannoli!"

    Default Note

I saw the note on the line late Friday afternoon during a solo dive and before attending the NACD social.
When I came up to it Becky was there with her camera and I thought the note pertained to her photos/video and I didn't want to get in her way so I jumped to the Hill 400 line.
When I came back by there a bit later no one was there, but the note still was so it was only then that I read it and saw what it said.
Back in the parking lot she and I talked and I found out that it was not connected with her photos at all. I then figured that either someone had put the note on the line for a real purpose or that it was some kind of "experiment."
I agree with what Forrest said about having too much junk in the cave if for no other reason that it might cause someone to have some issues during their dive which is totally uncalled for safety-wise.

A few years ago, I stated that the line arrow was never meant to be a "glory marker" and said I would be removing them. I never got the chance, they have all disappeared since then.

I hereby give everyone permission to remove any junk from all caves. I am not talking about jump markers, distance markers, survey markers etc., or the note at the end of the gold line in Devil's Eye, but plastic toys, silly notes on lines, etc.

I would consider that item junk, unless you can think of a valid reason that it needs to stay in the cave.

I think he means the Rouse marker...that might cause a bit of controversy should you go and remove it...or cause to have it removed. If he means the no scooter marker, by all means remove it and replace the gold line to where it used to end. Bill

I just don't want the line committee after me.

The bats are on the map, so that one isn't up to me.

I agree with you Forest. Keep the junk out of the caves.

He meant the wet note on the line with some note that can't be read properly when zooming past it at speed 6.
