Default Please Remove - "I have left the cave" note in Ginnie.

Just wanted to notify everyone not to do any looking, and to remove it when you dive at Devils tomorrow morning.

Marchand and I just completed a dive there about 2 hours ago and found a note clipped to the Hill400 jump (the note is on mainline across from there) that stated a diver had left the cave and left a backup light. We circled hill400 and checked out all the known jumps until about p1000 and didn't find anything out of the ordinary. Upon surfacing and packing up, we talked to some people left from the NACD social who informed us that it was simply a joke and that a buddy of theirs left it, and to disregard. Hopefully no one thinks it's a real emergency and goes looking like we did tomorrow. We notified Ginnie staff of this so that they could ask people in the morning who were diving to pull it as well as well (they weren't happy, sorry if we got you in trouble!).

Some joke...doesn't belong in cave diving.

I agree, it is a lot like the "Boy that cried Wolf!" When it really is an emergency, nobody will respond.

To whoever recovers the note/light, just keep the light. If the owner is stupid enough to claim it, we can crucify them.

I fail to see the humor.

I didn't find it funny, either. Fortunately we had oodles of extra gas at this point and could safely do a quick search without either of us being at risk, and friends of the diver let us know that everyone was safe. I'm guessing the intent wasn't malicious, but rather a joke that was funny at the time, but not so well thought you....so I wouldn't crucify the diver.

It seems the divers probably realize by now that the "joke" could have risked other divers' lives. Hopefully they have learned from this and others will as well.

Wow ... a serious "what were they thinking" moment.

Wonder if they thought through the notion that any reasonable person would be in there doing a search for a diver who wasn't missing.

Some jokes just ain't funny ...

It would be fascinating to know what the joke was...I am having a hard time finding it.

It is the same humor of people who think its funny to yell fire, or report a fake 911 call, or any other action that evokes a big response - thats the gag - all these people responding and you know it is not real. The "humor" nearly everyone learned by that time they were five years old - just isn't funny.

haha - someone is potential lost in the cave - haha. Some laugh.

Yeah... A Joke, Really? I'm not laughing...
