    Default Emerald 10-24-09

Keith, Gerri and I visited Emerald last Sat. Am. Vis was bad, 6 feet or so top to bottom. The Sun disappeared at about 30 feet. It was interesting, there were clouds of brown silt drifting through the water. There was a layer of brown/black goo on everything. If you fanned the wall with your hand, it would come off in sheets. It was dislodged by your exhaust, at least the few times I could actually see the overhead.

The last time I saw it like this, the system was blown for 3 months.

    Cheers!

Oh no!!!! That's horrible! Any idea the source of the goo?

Greetings. Goo was probably a bad choice of words. It is a mixture of silt and mud. Emerald usually has some black stuff on the walls and ceilings, but this is very loose, about 1/8" or so thick, and it is on the walls, ceilings, lines, trees, everything.

I would guess the source of this to be the parking lot at Doak Campbell stadium, or the capital circle spray field, or both.

    Greetings, earthling.

That stinks. I was hoping to get a dive in there over the Thanksgiving holidays. And we all know...it's ALL about me

Thanks for the update. It is a shame that "we" are doing this to our aquifer.

Sat the Basin at Indian looked great also. Put it this way, if you were diving a sink in Wakulla and not a spring you had no visibility. The Rain we got here 2 Fridays ago has trashed almost everything here. It took about 6 days to get to evertything as it moved down the system.

OFG...if you went a day earlier on thursday you would of had good vis at that sink.
