Thanks guys.... I just e-mailed my machinist buddy and told him to be ready to thread some heads for me when he gets back... Goal is to have 10 ready for him. I want to get the best bang for the buck when I get them anodized to keep prices down since minimum order is $70 for anodizing. BTW, it looks like the anodized heads will be all black since they want a minimum for each color. Black is most popular so black it will be. I can still do the powder coat in the other colors.

And, Scott, yes, I can't wait either... This will be a round, head mounted ballast. The head may have to be a bit longer, but the bulb sits on an MR-11 35mm reflector. Should be very easy to assemble and work on for the end user. Oh, and beam angle = 10degrees.

Of course all of these are off the shelf parts that ANYONE can buy through on-line retailers. I have had a few questions about this. I am willing to tell you guys my sources as well. No secret stuff here.

Here is one of the 12W HIDs from Brightstar. I did a quick fire on it and boy, this thing is nice... Now, there are some negatives, like them not being as sturdy as LED, no hot striking and whatever... but very NICE. I'll try to get some beamshots.

Nothing like HID when you want to penetrate murky water. I'm still trying to get prices on 24 and 35W units.

Now these will be more because:
    a. Requires a 12+ V supply, more batteries. I think I'll shoot for 14.8V. This means 8 18650 for 4-5 hours and 12 for about another 2 hours.
    b. These are about 10 times the price of the LED... No, they don;t produce 10x the light, but it is a really nice light.

So, based on what I have done, the price for the 2 prototype 12W LED will be $600 each includes PP and shipp in the US. I think these will definitely make it into the full production line...

    Thanks

    Thumbs up 12 w led

    Hello all,

I just wanted to give everyone an update, I purchased the 12 W LED canister light from Hector. All I can say is OUTSTANDING. The light performed perfectly, very bright, we were down for a couple of hours without any issues, opened it up when I got home and no leaks. The light beam had really good penetration in the water, I was truly impressed. I added the Canister mounting strap from DR and mounted the canister upside down between the BP and Wing, it fit perfectly. Hector was very informative through out the entire building process, he provided me with many updates, and answered all my questions happily, when it shipped it only took a couple days to get to me. I highly recommend his products, very well made.

Thank you Hector. I can tell you take pride in your work from the lights construction and performance. I'll be back for some video lights later.

    Dive Safe &
    God Bless.

OK, here is one for all the cheap bastards out there... You know who you are, you want quality but you wanna pay the least amount possible!!! lol! I mean that respectfully of course! Hey, that's how I started making stuff.

Alright, so here is a modded Maglite lighthead with a 3-LED reflector, driver set up. Makes a really nice hot spot with light spill around it. I am really impressed with this thing.

I am making one with a 3-LED (pictured) and one with a 5-LED set up.

The three LED set up runs at about 12V and 700-1000ma. You can drive with 3 18650 in series or 10 NiMH. Probably comparable to 10-12W LED... I have a 10D cell NiMH, 6500mah, huge pack if anyone is interested.

The 5LED will run on 2 LiIon 18650 (about 8-volt) at about 2.5 amps. Closer to 15-20W LED. Can get 4 hour run time by using 8 18650 in 2S by 4P configuration.. This will also fit in one of my custom canisters which I have already made and ready for $150. This light has 5 modes. High, low, strobe, etc...

The 3-LED I am asking $120 and the 5-LED $150. Includes PP and shipping in the US.

If you want a fully built light system around these, I think I can get you in one for about $400. Battery, charger, light head, shipping, PP.

    Awesome!

Just so everyone knows, I bought 2 canisters (no heads) and put a spair head on one of them.
These are outstanding canisters and I can just imagine the quality of the heads.
Cant wait for the new head so I can have both working. ( i like to keep my lights with my rig, one for my BM and one for my SM rig, call me a creature of habit)

    I replied to your PM
