    Default Cave Diving Research Survey

Hello, my name is Michael Gibby and I am a Junior at the University of Central Florida, in Orlando, Florida. I'm researching cave diving in my economics degree program, and have put together a survey to help me to that end.

I need atleast 100 respondents from three categories--cave divers, non cave divers, and non divers. I'm posting the survey on several forums to try and get those responses.

If you could take a couple of minutes to answer these questions, I'd appreciate it! Your information will be entered into a database and your name will not be revealed to anyone, anytime, for any reason, so please answer honestly. However, in order for this to happen, you'll have to PM or email me your completed survey.

I will be posting the completed paper on this forum once it is done, which will hopefully be before the end of the semester!

    Thank you for your help!

Thank you to Dr. Craiger for alerting me to Google Docs! I had no clue it would let me set up a survey for free like that!

Come on dude. Set it up in qualtrics or survey monkey or something.

Other suggestions - you're going to have to define "injured". Hurt knee?

And on alcohol 12 hrs before - are you kidding? I'm trying to remember a morning dive where that DIDN't apply

    What he said...

The shoals are there still, the winds howl loud, the rain beats down, the waves burst strong. Some night, in the chill darkness, someone will make a mistake: The sea will show him no mercy. John T. Cunningham

Survey Monkey and Formsite limite me to 10 questions, unless I want to pay.

There are lots of things in there I could define but didn't, injured is only one of those things. I'm not sure exactly how to define injured, but I'll give it a whack.

I have some serious doubts about your questions. What we believe is fairly irrelevant; however you bring up an interesting point that no one, even certain 'researchers' who like to claim that they have valid data are missing. A denominator. I think a study needs to be done that gives a number cave dives in a certain time spans. an 'Active' cave diver technically means nothing unless you put a number of cave dives, or even better, hours dived in that definition.

The number of deaths may increase per year, but if the number of people cave diving have also increased, then the actual percentage of deaths is decreasing. I would imagine that the death rate has decreased substantially (no data - just perspective on cave diving).

    I'll answer your questions anyway!

I've just had a friend offer another solution to surveymonkey or similar sites, that would work for me at no charge... so I'm going to upload the survey through that and post the link here. I can't believe that I, nor the people in my class who have helped with this, didn't think of this solution sooner!

No matter what you do some people will take your survey more seriously then others. I answered yours and would be interesting to see the results. Even though the question is, is everybody answering honestly or just making fun of it?
    Good luck!!!

Sorry for hijacking this thread I just looked at your website, and you are saying that you have issues creating it. Use Wordpress - great and simple. My wife is using it for our web site. Another good one is Joomla.

There have certainly been some responses that I wonder if I should throw out due to unreasonable answers.

I'm also hard at work trying to find out how many cave divers there are out there, and my preliminary evidence has already shocked me, at how few active cave divers there might actually be. Hopefully, further research will show that there are plenty active divers out there.

Thank you to everyone who has answered the survey so far! I need alteast another 70 responses by cave divers, and another 80 by open water divers.
