Filling o2 question

I got to think about something while i was filling nitrox earlier for a customer so here it is." If you fill a al 40 with 100%02 is it sitting at 3000 or 2500?" I ask this because our 100% storage bottles that we have only go to 2500. We have just used 50/50 all the time and i have never really thought aout it. What do dive shops in cave country fill 100% to down there?

Depends on where you go, Cave adventurers fills to 3100 or so, cave excursions fills to 3000. Many shops don't have O2 pumps like they do. Many shops just cascade to whatever they can get from their O2 bottles. Usually about 2400psi.

Thats what we do how can we change it? 02 pumps? I just dont wont to have a customer come in asking for 100% and we can only filll it to whatever we got. Thats not good buisness if you ask me

You can spend 4k on a big pump, or if you only fill every once in a while use a mini booster pump for around $1500. I think North East Scuba Supply has one in that range.

There are electric boosters, and also the standard pneumatic (Haskel) type. You should talk to a couple of fill station owners in N FL.

Cave Adventurers in Marianna has an electric booster, Cave Excursions (east and west), and Amigos have pneumatic boosters.

Keep in mind that said boosters will pump higher than 3000 psi. There is a much greater chance of a fire or explosion at higher pressures than that. I've had the pleasure of fixing just about everyones boosters in N. FL for that reason.

Makes for a good long term business opportunity it seems...folks, just keep asking for higher pressure when you get an O2 fill! But, put the beer down and step away~!!

Assuming you can only fill their tank to 2400psi instead of 3000psi, they are "missing" 8 cubic feet. That is $2 worth of o2 assuming you charge $.25/cu.ft., how many fills will you have to sell before you pay for your booster? Is it good business sense to buy a booster?

Personally, as a diver, not a shop owner, if I need o2 that badly and cannot dive unless my tank is filled to 3k, I'd get a 72 for my o2 needs.
