50w light for cave diving

Hi Buddies,


I'm now using a 21w and thinking of up-grade to a 50w because my whole team think it will give us a more enjoyable dive. But some people said it's too bright for cave diving. Are there anybody using one and please advice.

If everyone on the team has the same bright light, and the passages are large, then brightness isn't an issue. If one diver has a bright light, and the rest only have dim lights, then signaling is a problem.

A get a snow-blind headache with that kind of light. I am a hold out and still use the 10w,and my eyes adjust very well,and see detail.

I don't think I would want that big of a light in the caves in FL..at least the ones I dive. Something about not having the entire passage lit up makes it more fun. Heck I like to shield my light at times and just enjoy the ambient light from my dive buddy.

I use Dual 50 watt HID's for video lights and anyone who's dove with me or been in the same cave will say it's blinding and looks like a train is coming at you! It is a lot of light. If you have a wet disconnect (EO cord) on your canister you can just get a 50 watt head, and then be able to choose what you want to use on the dive, your 21 or 50 but if you do that depending on your canister size your battery wont last you as long as it would using your 21 watt light.

Personally I don't think its needed if your diving with 2 or 3 divers all using 21-35 watt lights =) I still dive with a 10watt when i'm doing fun dives
