You're right, Joe. CaveBuddy is mistaken - nobody's making fun of J_glenn, they're making fun of PADI.

100 cave dives to start the process. But that's not the only minimal requirement. With the CDS, you also have to have issued 40 recreational certifications prior to being eligible. That alone may take you awhile to accomplish once you get your OW instructor rating. And then, you are only eligible for the Cavern and Intro ratings. Once you do that, you must wait a year and teach at least 6 cavern and intro courses before being eligible to begin the full cave instructor internship. With some other agencies (IANTD, for example), in addition to having taught a certain number to cavern and intro level courses, you also have to have additional cav dives beyond the 100. I believe NACD has similar requirements to the CDS.
