No, they are tank sherpas. As any sump diver can tell you, they're some of the most valuable people around. And they work for free! Well, maybe for beer and bragging rights.

The hard part is getting them to be willing to do it more than once...

There's something wonderful about a woman in mud-saturated coveralls and a seat harness, a coil of static rope over her shoulder, smelling of carbide...

I was joking about Bill hiring beautiful young women to carry his tanks and did not mean any insult the sherpas working for free.

No offense taken - I thought it was funny!

I have been trying to get a beautiful young woman to carry my tanks for years, but Tracy's busy carrying her own.

    Default More on Alafia River

Tampa was chosen for the Olympic games and the Olympic MBA together with a local club designed and built the 22 miles of trails there. The venue was changed from Tampa but the trails remained... there is Green, Blue, Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond trails and if you like Mountain biking it's the one place you shouldn't miss. I will retract my rating of "Best on the East Coast" but no matter what the trails are like back home I encourage you to try and find the time to visit Alafia River State Park, when your in the area. You won't be sorry, but you will have to pass on diving to do it... tough call. I want to dive every cave and ride every trail... "SOMEBODY STOP ME!"

Wow. This is clearly one place where being an old lady has its advantages. I've been quite successful in getting beautiful young men to carry mine . . . It may be purely out of pity, but it's still fun.

I got advanced nitrox at 69 and full cave at 70. Age is creeping up on me and I'll probably have to switch to sidemount.
I've never had a boat operator ask me my age; what they ask (and rightly so) is date of last deep dive.

Congratulations Allen on your full cave. I know you've worked hard to attain that... like that customary "I've dived at Madison - high dive" jump at Madison Blue... even though the kids said 'you crazy old man?...'

And... you are never too old to have to put your name on your hood so you won't forget who you are....

...and we've all carried a tree along on a dive once upon a time....
