Default All that rain this week?

I've been watching the Weather Channel this week and hearing aweful stories (12" to 24" of rainfall) on the rainfall in Florida this week. Is it having an impact on the river levels and getting into the caves? Or has it all been south of the major rivers?

Rebreathers are something that we have to go to in order to dive the way we want to dive. They are not something we go to for any other reason.

    Default Rain in Cave Country

Here in Live Oak, FL, we have not received
that much rain. we just get good rain showers
everyday. The grass is growing and the
    mosquitoes are still here.

We are only 15 miles from Peacock Springs
    near Luraville, FL.
The Suwannee River has dropped down to
what looks like its normal stage now.

Hope this makes you feel better. We are
hoping by next weekend or sooner that the systems
will be ready to go cave diving.

Thanks. We stay at Dive Outpost and frequent the Lauraville Cafe. Actually, we've got the menu down pact. Two years now we've have our spring trips cancelled due to the water levels. So, we're trying to put a "summer" trip together and didn't know if the rain was creating more problems.

    Appreciate your reply.

i am at peacock and i can see the entrance in peacock but
they still wont open it to dive, little river the gate is still locked
cow has 30 feet of viz, telford look pretty good and is divable
its all got the green tint but fair viz, just cant get in anyplace
because they still have no diving posted! heard someone needs
to go in and give a report on the conditions in the system
but if you can see in the basen and its flowing it needs to be
open, this effects the dive shops and the state revenue that supports
the park. people come from all over the world to dive here, and who ever
refuses to make a decision not to let people dive is making the
decision based on personal reasons clearly not conditions!
been here for 3 days and no one, i mean NO ONE has got in
to even take a look! its dissapointing

Damn, imagine that, I'm from Pittsburgh. Yep, with all of this rain, I did not even make the CDS workshop with the water knocking on my door and my parents.

The State Park people here do an excellent job of managing the parks and I'm sure they have good reasons for not opening Peacock for diving yet. BTW, none of the others you mention are SPs. You may want to call the sheriff about diving Telford because you will be seeing him soon enough if you go in there. Why not dive Ginnie and/or Manatee?

You can dive Telford legally if you access the system from the river, i.e., go to the boat ramp.

WTF? You're down from PA for three days and now there is some conspiracy to prevent you from diving? Just because the basin is clear does not mean that the caves are ready to dive. Also, how do you know that no one has checked them out? Because they aren't open? Maybe it's possible that they're not open because they're not ready to be opened.

On all the forums, yours is the only post I've seen making these accusations. Perhaps that's because those of us who actually live here and dive here all the time understand that these things take time. Pack up and head to the Mill Pond, there is plenty of great diving there.

When we have major floods there is debris that gets sucked in and can reek havoc on the lines in the systems. Lines can (and have) break, etc. It's not all bout water clarity. The lines (at least the gold line) needs to be inspected by the line committee.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

hung out there for quite a while and finally
saw the ranger and confirmed no one has been in
they have to have someone from the line
comittee do it, and that is scheduled for next weekend sometime
