Devils Ear / Eye deep section?

I was just looking through the Tampa Diving site and noticied the following entry for Ginnie Springs:

with the 173 as maximun depth. I'm assuming that 173 is a misprint as I don't remember getting more than around 110 ft or so. Misprint or has a "new section" been discovered again? Tell me it's not wrong.....

It is not a misprint. There was a new section discovered. A number of different explorers were involved in different parts at different times, and pissed various people off to different degrees, and caused many discussions of varying length

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming from your post that information regarding this section would probably not be posted in an open forum. Would this be the same area that was discovered and subsequently trashed shortly after or something else?

I heard something about a low pressure inflator hose being 2" to long for the team so the entire exploration project was rendered invalid.

Not at all. I just wasn't aware that the new section was that deep. The only mention of it I see on this forum is arguments over what info should be published and who trashed what areas. But I guess that kinda is the point...

Being an out-of-state diver without a scooter, I rely on forums such as this and yours (which is excellent, by the way) for info on systems, what is opened, what is closed, new discoveries, etc. Although some of the questions by us "non-locals" may seem pretty stupid, please remember that we might get a few days of cave diving that will have to last us for a year or more. We rely on our local, experienced brethren to lead us to the best dives so we can get our fix as well. And so we post...

And yes, I have checked out PIII on several occasions. Love that Henley's Castle....
