Stating the gas is only for you and your team seems a bit contrary to thinking aloud that you and others are going to "contribute" gas to a cashe in the gas. If you feel you need to put extra stages in a cave for you dive plan, then do it! When you are done, pull them out.

My fear if it becomes common knowledge that there is gas stashed in a cave, that someone may push the limits to the breaking point, thinking there is a extra layer of protection. Should the gas not be available, what would happen then?

I am all for placing safety bottles where needed. Need to put together some myself. A community cashe is a bad idea.

    Cheers!!

    +1

But I've got a couple of those classes to go...

You misunderstood my statement. I would put bottles in and take them out as needed. Not leaving them as a long term caches. This is what we all typically do know. I would continue to do this as well. Maybe my ability to express myself is limited in this format.

Gee, based on your previous posts here...

It sure seems like you were thinking of common safety bottles that would be permanently installed.

I place and remove as needed. That is what I do now and will continue to do. The original post was simply a thought not an action.

So you are saying that when YOU dive you put the safties in so that you can push your gas reserve and gas planning during a dive? Then when the dive is over with and you did not use them or you did not do proper gas managment and had to use them YOU would pull them out?

Is that it? You take them in on a dive and the same dive bring them out?

That is totaly differnat then what it sounded like you were asking about.

At JB I have left a bottle in for several dives over a multiday period then removed it.

I wanted to hear others take on a long term cache at JB. If it was strongly supported I would be willing to contribute a cache. That is all.

    Outlaw,

You are all over the place on this one. Seems like you are suggesting that there should be bottles placed in JB long term. Then the gas is only for you and your buddies. Then you are fielding the idea of a long term cashe. That you and others could contribute to the cashe.

I don't think there is a limit to the length of posts here on CDF. Why not take the time and spell out the reasons why you think this is a good idea. I am all open to new and good ideas if they make sense and there is very good reasons. Please share.

    Cheers!!

I cant comment on JB, having never dove there, but in general I wouldn't think its a good idea.

Simply for the reason that people stage bottles in caves all the time, often at common intersections and jumps and I wouldn't ever want someone assuming that the bottle thats there was one of the safety bottles staged in there for common use.

If your planning some big push dive with a team over a designated period then different rules apply but for everyday use I cant see this as being a good thing. If your placing bottles in a cave label them properly for your (or your teams) use and no one else should touch them EVER. I believe this was discussed in an earlier thread here or on TDS.

Outlaw, are you diving OC or a RB?

I agree with the others that a "community cache" (pretty much anywhere) is a horrid idea. Especially once the stage police come snooping around.
