Well....I have lost my primary reel. Actually, I think I left it on the dive boat this weekend and it is gone forever...
What ya' go you are willing to sell?
DR Primary 250' 24# - purchased for $94 new, in great condition (only used about 5 times)...$55+ ship.
i HIGHLY recommend the MANTA CR-1 ...
if you are doing caves, you may want to go with a manta senior instead ... (has a brake)
I've heard several in cave country say they don't like the mantas because it requires maintaining pressure on a spring loaded tension bar. I personally don't have experience with them :smt102.
wow...jersey in the house, anyway I have a reef scuba LI wreck reel. only 1 season old....was my back-up. 100 bucks i'll pay shipping.

oooo I'm tellin' ... :smt081
This is going to be my primary for caves, I lost a Salvo :smt013 and I really liked it....really makes me mad as it was my first primary, had alot of use & memories attached to it.
You might find that the Larry Green/Ralph Hood reels are similar in function and design while being cheaper than the Salvo/Halcyon design.

Similar to the Salvo.
I have both a Salvo and a Larry Green Primary reel. I also have Larry Green Safety and Jump reels. They are very good as is the Salvo. I don't use the Salvo very often because it is an 800' reel.
I just did my cavern & Basic Cave courses and my instructor brought several reels for me to try in addition to my DR (2nd).
I used the Halcyon - very nice. I used the Ralph Hood. Sweet. I don't think they're that similar (just my opinion). The Ralph Hood was smooth and easy to reel while being tough to entangle. IF someone could entangle the reel, I would be that person. Very nice reel. I want one!
Whodunit--what I meant was, they are each of the sidewinder category. I know DR has a sidewinder but I've never used it. Manta likewise has some "sidewinder"esque reels but they have always struck me as being for ocean divers somehow.
I bought a Salvo last season just to try......I used it on one dive and sold it. couldn't get used to the side winder. Anyway the reef scuba real is still available.

JahJah, sorry I didn't mean to contradict, I was just offering my experience in my extremely brief cave diving (1 week) "career." I used them last weekend and my personal experience was that I found them to be different. I have seen plenty of those in the ocean-diving community and agree with your comments.
It's all good down below!
