Hey janet how is peacock?
Its getting along without her. She resigned. I was at peacock on friday, basin was crystal cave looked great.
aw, i knew it was coming up, but too bad. i'll miss her.
The new guy is really cool!! Best of luck to Janet.

And Peacock is not doing as well without Janet. I was there last weekend and it already looks unkept. You guys lost a great asset with Janet. Sure hope some of you find the time to thank her for all she has done for us.

FWIW, a different female ranger was closing up, the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
That guy in the picture is Richard, the new cool guy is me, pleased to meet you.
Every time I saw Janet at Peacock she was always busy doing something to keep that place clean. I don't recall ever seeing her without some sort of tool in her hand. She was always either sweeping the tables and benches, snipping the roots that grew into the foot paths (to keep us from tripping), or picking up trash. Not to mention she was pretty active here in keeping us informed of conditions at PSSP. This is not to say the guy (what's your name?) won't be good, but he's got huge boots to fill.Quote:

It is indeed very sad news, it seems that she was the only person in that park that actually cared about it and did something about it.
I saw the difference when she first came to Peacock and am very sorry to see her go. The park will not be the same without her and we all will miss her smile and her efforts to keep us abreast of diving conditions and weather in the area.

I hear a rumor that Peacock may backup in the next couple of days. Can anyone nearby there confirm/deny this?
If this is true, would it be safe to say I should cancel my Christmas/New Years trip? Or could it peak and clear up again in a few weeks?Quote:

With about a foot rise in one river I know the visibility in some of the river caves reduced quite a bit. With today's rain, I think many of those river caves will be blown for a while.Quote:

Just come over to the Mill Pond. Jackson and Twin are still good. Hole in the Wall is better than most winters. The river caves I'm going to probably aren't ones you'd be diving anyway...unless you dive sidemount and have a boat...Quote:

Jeff and I did the grand traverse yesterday, Wednesday (December 10), at Peacock from Orange Grove to P1. Wonderful conditions. Water was up to the first step in Orange Grove. Cavern in Orange Grove was so clear, you could see the log (where everyone ties a reel) from the surface. Conditions were great throughout. The viz in the cavern at P1 was the best I have seen.
One comment: the main line at 750 feet from Orange Grove is about to break. The outer sheath is gone, and only 3 inner threads holding the line together. I’d hate to see that line break.

We dove there Friday the 12th (Pothole to Cisteen and back) and the vis was pretty nice, better in the Pothole tunnel, less so in Cisteen but still doable. Dove the Peanut line the 11th and vis was about as good as I've seen. That being said, there was a lot or rain early Thurs am which may be affecting vis by now.
Dove Lower Orange on 12/12, the vis was good in the basin (could have been better if not for the two dozen open-water divers). In the cave vis was excellent and a big thanks to whoever relined that system.
Thanks everybody this gives me hope. Even though I enjoy Ginnie I really enjoy PSSP.

Dove from OG to P1 by way of Olsen (the traverse) yesterday afternoon, OG is as clear as I've seen in a while, you can see the cavern entrance from the deck. The cave was VERY clear all the way to P1, there was a bit of silt stirred up approx 200 ft in from P1 (other divers had been there previously). Don't know about the Peanut side but would assume it was in similar clear condition. The day was PERFECT, not too cold and blue skies.
There were some OW (looked OW to me) divers in OG but we did not encounter any teams during the traverse.
Jim had a class but we did not see them until we were in the parking lot, I am thinking they were on the Peanut line....
The only thing missing was Janet, but I hear she will be around the park again involved with the interpretive trails and kiosk...(YEAH!! we still get to see her!!!)

Hi Guys,
Yes, I've left my position at PSSP but I plan on staying active at the park as a park
volunteer, I was informed Sunday that I was appointed president of the NFSA at Saturday's meeting, see if I ever miss another meeting. I want to thank everyone for the very kind comments made, I'm very flattered. I had a wonderful time meeting all of you and loved being able to assist you as a park visitor in our park. I made many great friends in my 9 years and hope to see some of you at different dive sites. I do plan on getting back into cave diving again, since I haven't dove much the last 4 years. I will get to see a lot of you at one Cathy's many socials, everyone there has been great to Bill & myself.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and hope to see many of you in the future.
