Camping in the Luraville area

Looking to camp in the Luraville area over New Years. Does anyone have the phone # for the campground formerly known as Jim Hollis', or do they have a web site?
I presume it has changed ownership with the name change.

Are there any other worthwhile campgrounds in the area I could check out? Thanks for your help.[/quote]

Try Jim Hollis River rond. or Elly Mae's Campground south of Branford. Both are ok places...otherwise bite the bullet and stay at Ginnie Springs Campground....

Unfortunately, We will not be attending the social. Due to my work schedule, we will not be leaving Indiana until noon on the 31st. That puts us in NFL around 1:30 or 2:00 am on the 1st.

Each year we try to cave dive on the last day of the old year, and the first day of the new year. This year we will just have to settle for the latter.

Jim & Cheryl Hollis did sell their place, but they still run the dive shop there, but I think they will be moving it to Mayo. I'm not sure what the new owners plan to do with the place.

There is another option for camping. Hart Springs has a new campground with full hookups for under $10/day which includes use of the park....but any guided diving is extra.

You were telling me about that over at CEE when I was down your way in the beginning of Nov., but it was underwater at the time.

I'll check that out, also.

Ginnie is great camping and close to one of our favorite sites, the Devils System. But when you are looking at 4 guys at over $16 each per night, that gets awfully expensive. Ginnie is a great place but at over $64 per night, I think we are liking the $10 per night or less. Granted there will be some differences in the camping, but that also includes Ginnie charging $20 for access to the water versus Peacock or LR. Besides that, we like LR and Peacock a lot and have a season pass to there. I know Ginnie is a private enterprise and I am all for the small businessman, being one myself. But when they just keep charging you for more people to camp and for the right to step into the water (that they don't own), they start getting a bit expensive.

There are several state parks that allow camping.. Manatee also has diving. There is another NW of High Springs that I can't name at the moment..

Yeah, that was one of my complaints.

Hotels don't typically do this. You pay per room - not per-person. If they DO charge an extra fee for extra people, its nominal - not "full load."

If you have 4 at Ginnie, you can stay in a hotel - with a private bathroom and shower - for less money.

The $20 (or $27) doesn't bother me as much - but the camping fees do. But heh, as long as people pay 'em, they'll charge 'em.

I like Peacock a lot - that annual parks pass does the job, and I get a lot more out of it than Peacock (there's a local state park here that has a launching ramp which is excellent for my smaller boat)

The state park near Ginnie that a previous poster was trying to think of is O'Leno State Park.

jim's place is now called The River Rendezvous. the phone number is 800-533-5276. the local number is 386-294-2510. the restaurant and dive shop are closed (being rebuilt), but the showers/toilets work and the campsites are dry again - well most of them. I was just there december 2nd talking with the new owner.

there is a nice camground on the way to the north entrance to Ichetucknee Springs State park, it about a mile from the park entrance, and they have a convenience store on the grounds. Las time I ck'd they were around the $12.00 a night mark.
Cathey's in Luraville is also a nice place{diver's outpost}and reasonably priced. Cindy's motel in Mayo is another choice if you don't wish to make like 'Everest Expedition Pioneers'-! Possibly Suwannee river cove may also be available, just west of Ft. White near Branford.
