Change to Gold Line at Madison Blue Springs

Please be aware, we are replacing & in some cases re-routing the Gold Line at Madison Blue Springs. This Project started today 4/27/2007 under State Permit.

The Gold line has been extended to the Stop Sign. There is a short section at the sign specificly for primary tie-offs. Instructors, please take your students to the Stop sign, not the bottom of the well.

We are attempting to eliminate all line traps and overhead line placements. Lines may stretch over the next few weeks, and we will be checking up on the placements, but if you see any problems, please PM me with specific's, or constructive comments.

We got just past the Martz jump today, and will be doing more next week.
When we finish we will mark the new line with arrows every 100'.

A special thanks to the NACD for their donation of the Gold Line.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be starting my Madison dives in June. Hopefully, you guys will be all done by then.

Hey , thanks for the update !!!
Awww , I used to enjoy using that little metal triangle as a nice place to do a line placement.
But actually , it will be nice to have the gold line out that far IMHO.

I've had a few times of having to maneuver a little to lay my line under a few others. And it gives you a few other options for primary tie-offs.

Yes, for now we are just moving the old markers to the new line. When we are done, we will put in all new arrows, 1 every 100' & new jump arrows as well.

What was the viz like? I remember it was blown a couple weeks ago, would like to head up thataway if conditions are good.

Yesterday my good buddy Jim Clark helped me measure & mark the Gold line. We put a large gold arrow every 100', and new double arrows on the jumps.

FYI from the rabbit hole its 75' to the stop sign, 200 to the Godzilla Line, 550' to the Martz jump, 1200' to the Mount offshoot, and 1575' to the end-of-line.

We cut back the lines at the end & made them short jumps. Those are not intro level tunnels.

Near the end of our third dive we noticed the line that jumps from the gold line at 400' (goes to what was the century tunnel) was slack, so we did not mark it. I plan to go back Tuesday & repair or replace that line.

I did the first few hunderd feet up the mainline today. Nice goldline placement, easy to follow. System was beautiful. The guys I was diving with are limited to sixths so we didn't get too far but I liked what I saw.

Thanks for all the work in this system guys. I'm going to enjoy learning this cave over the rest of the year.

I was in Madison about 2 weeks ago. The new line was nice. There are a few cinder blocks that used to be used for tie-offs but are now just kinda sitting in the main path, doing nothing. Any chance they could be removed form the system? They look so unnatural in there.

We did use one more of them Friday to clean up a run I was not happy with. That does leave one sitting there one top of the hill all by itself. I will either use it elsewhere or remove it soon. They really are a pain in the a** to move around in there. But Jim got an idea from a friend to wrap a Poodle-jacket BC around it, and that works pretty good.

Update : More changes

Last week we extended the Gold line almost to the main entrance, and relocated the Stop sign to be visible from the rabbit hole. The stop sign is also a good place to secure a line if you are going to cross-under.

We also relined the Godzilla run, & marked the distances.

The Martz line & the Mount off-shoot will be re-lined in the near future.

There is also a new "back alley" that bypasses the Godzilla jump. Has anyone noticed it yet?

Jim Clark was my buddy on this part of the project as well as on all the other Gold line work. Thanks Jim.

Claudia Milz, Tom Pearsy, and Mike from Cave Excursions, have also assisted on this project to-date.

I noticed the new line on the Godzilla circuit, thick stuff! The line is very well placed, good job and thanks for your work on this.

Good improvements. The area where the end of the line comes back to itself is particularly well layout right now. It makes it a lot smoother to cookie or connect the two lines.

That new line is thick. What size is that ? Any reason to go for something that thick ?

Sorry Tom,

I misspelled Tom's name, it's Pearcy not Pearsy.

Also, the line is 1/8". I got a good deal on 6000' of it.
I plan on doing the main lines with it, and the smaller tunnels with regular cave line.
