Orange Grove Sink closed temporarily

Orange Grove Sink is closed to swimming and diving. The lower stairs are out of commission until some temporary fixes can be implemented. The North Florida Springs Alliance is working on a temporary fix until a permanent replacement can be constructed. There are numerous projects in the queue and the NFSA depends on donations and membership dues to make those happen. Please consider becoming a member and donating. Many of the structures you find at Peacock Springs, Madison Blue Springs, Troy Springs, and other are paid for by the NFSA and constructed by the hand working volunteers.

I remember a time when cave divers didn?t need steps to get in or out.
That giant stride was a right of passage.

Hopefully the necessary repairs are completed quickly.

Does this mean that the rest of Peacock is open and divable?

It's probably the $250 worth of Trimix I breathed but I am confused.

Dive Outpost posted on Facebook yesterday that Peacock was open and the basins were clear.

Clearish. [emoji23]

But probably clearer than the Hillier tunnel after uncertified DPV divers blow it out. [emoji2369]

$15/year is a small price to pay for easy access to these sites. Thanks to the volunteers!

Best comment of the day!

I hope every cave diver is supporting NFSA and renewing their annual membership.

I remember before the steps too. Busted my a$$ a few times walking down that hill with doubles on. Almost got a colonoscopy from a cypress knob [emoji23]

Knob.

Knee.

Freudian? Innuendo? What's going on here? The Stalinists better not figure this out.....

Either way it was not a pleasant experience [emoji23]

Growing up in louisiana the thing you have to fear most while wading through the swamps hunting is tripping and falling on a cypress knee. They used to track cypress knee deaths. It wasnt super high but it was higher than people being killed by wildlife

I was there today.

We dove Orange Grove.

Realistic visibility (able to understand hand signals) probably 25-35 feet and the water was yellow. Distance Tunnel seemed a bit clearer.

Also heard from a reliable source that dove P1 that the visibility is much better in P1.

The steps at Orange Grove have been repaired and access to Orange Grove is now open. Visibility in the basin was ~50 ft; in the cave ~30 ft. Enjoy and dive safe!!
