Sad to hear, he was a great dog. Did anyone let Tracy know?

Very sad news. Bandit was a great doggo. When I stayed at Bill's cabins he'd always stop by for morning greeting when I was having my coffee. RIP Bandit.
Very sad. Loved by many in the cave diving community.
That sucks :( glad I got to meet him a few times.
Rest in peace Bandit! You will be missed.
=( very sad to hear, he will be missed! I had the privilege of Bandit showing me where the entrance to Luraville was the first time I dove it!
He will be missed
Loved that dog. Won?t be the same without him [emoji22] So glad we got to see him one last time just before the lockdown.

Was a great place to do an early morning dive just after sunrise before heading back home. This allowed us to get on the road by 9 or 10.
One morning when I woke up and went into the building, I let Bandit out. He immediately went racing off. Not wanting to be responsible for him getting lost, I chased him. He led me almost all the way to Telford before I caught him. I then lugged him halfway back to Dive Outpost, before he broke loose and went running off. When I got back to the shop to tell Kathy I had lost him, he was sitting right beside her.
When we were there in Feb, the new owners said they had put all diving on hold till they find out their liability
He will be missed
I wish the yappy new dog, Lieb, were more mellow like Bandit.
To each their own... BUT I have frequented Cathy's on and off for over 15 years and have loved all of her animals. Now that I am in Ft. White and don't need to lodge there as often, I would still like to patronize the Dive Outpost for gas fills and social reasons but I find myself avoiding it due to the new owners' dog. I do not like aggressive dogs and feel uncomfortable at the DO as a result. It seems I may not be the only one - something Kate and Adam (new owners) may need to take note of.
I work with police dogs. The dog at dive outpost makes me uncomfortable. The police K9s do not (and some of them try to bite me because I have to do painful things to them). The issue is who?s the handler/owner. The dog at dive outpost is a nervous dog that shows nervous/fearful aggression tendencies. It happens, but it takes a good owner to keep a dog with those issues from biting someone. I don?t see that at do. They are oblivious to it.
I pretty much like every dog in the world and it annoys the crap out of my wife that every animal in the world seems to like me(perks of the job). The dog at do is the only dog my wife?s seen me every wary or nervous of and the only dog she?s seen not like me. I probably should just shut up and not comment, but it really bothered me dealing with that dog the last 3 times I stopped at do. I refuse to say something to the owners because in my experience it will go nowhere and I?ll be the bad guy. They refuse to see the issue and me saying something won?t fix that. But maybe somebody who is friends with the new owners will say something to them after seeing a few of us are saying something.
There?s a good chance someone will act nervous of their dog or make a movement the dog doesn?t like and it will bite them. Sadly I tell people all the time it?s not the dog?s fault, it?s the owners.
I love Lieb. Runs and barks at me but has never tried to bite me. Once she sees who I am that pulled up we are good. Maybe the way some react to her. I can see where people might be nervous at first but she?s a good girl. Give her a chance.
Just my opinion and experience.

Never lmind
:smt039Lieb is as sweetheart! Just big and mouthy. She chews on me occasionally but we're cool! I cannot wait to see everyone at Dive Outpost as soon as possible. Stay SAFE! Stay WELL!
Granted that Lieb might be wound a little too tight for some peoples comfort but he is still a great dog. He runs at me full speed while barking and showing teeth, but his tail is in a playful wag the entire time. I just lean down and reach out to pet him and he will immediately settle down to chewing on my hands and arms. He has learned that I tolerate a lot from animals and really enjoys the interaction. Like stated earlier he can be mouthy, but he has never actually bit me or even caused pain. He is just a sweat baby dog in a big scary dog body. Don't get me wrong, I think he could be extremely protective of Kate and Adam though. Certainly not a deterrent from stopping at my favorite shop in cave county.
rest in peace you fluffy doggo ....
bandit ftw.
Someone really needs to bring this concern to the attention of the new owners. I have extensive knowledge in the handling and training of dogs and can tell you, based on what I'm reading here, this could turn out badly. Both for the owners and the dog.
You?re exactly correct. The behavior the dog is showing is one that can easily be misinterpreted by someone that doesnt know dog behavior extensively as being ok. Unfortunately what I have seen in its behavior is a warning sign of nervous/fearful aggressiom. Alot of people see a shepherd and think the behavior is normal because they?re ?protectors?, which is entirely incorrect. Even trained police k9s dont typically show that behavior.
I think 20 years as a veterinarian gives me a pretty good ability to differentiate safe and potentially unsafe behaviors. As Mitch says, the owners really should be made aware. It definitely wont be me. I dont really want to bring my work into my dive days and based on my experiences with the owners it wont go well anyway.

I agree rddvet, that conversation won't go well. I am absolutely positive it will go better than the conversation that follows someone feeling threatened and them feeling like they need to protect themselves.
