Hello,
Any of y'all have more details on the construction at Buford?
They are putting in a boardwalk and a rock base on the tram road.

WOW!
So much for the "protection of the swamp" to keep Buford from being pummeled with human traffic.
Glad I saw it 40 years ago in it's pristine beauty.
I agree Steve but to be honest, it has taken a beating. There was a makeshift gravel path a local had been putting in by carrying 5 gallon buckets of gravel, the survey makers, then the lines, and now the traffic seems more like free divers than scuba divers.
My first dive there was in 2002, so not quite 40 :)
I sent the links to Will Walters, who discovered Buford in 1974 or so.
Wonder what he thinks?
I agree, it's been ravaged for years....I wonder when the first fatality will occur...after all it's a cave environment beyond 130-140 or so, and pretty silty back around the restriction at 160. Any idea what the diving criteria will be....or will it be an open water training cluster f..k?
I know the CWMA regs changed with more restrictions....but probably not enough, considering the current situation.
No incidents....yet!
The increased ease of access will draw a "less dedicated" (meaning lower levels of training/experience) diving population....meaning the odds of an "incident" (don't you just love semantics!) will increase multifold.....simple probability.
When do they expect the work to be completed?
The first link you posted is no longer available as of this morning...maybe my question was answered there?
The pulled the file; so much for the sunshine. I guess I should not of shared it.
Has anyone been out to Buford lately? Think I'm going to try to get out there before it's not accessible due to construction, wondering if it's CLOSED closed or if I'll be able to get in the water.
It’s closed - respect the fwc’s rules
Luckily Warm Spring will still remain in its pristine beauty, still protected deep in the swamp...

I’ve never gone due to the trek required to get there. The side of me that feels the boardwalk is bad for the swamp and the spring itself due to the increased diver traffic and possible incidents is met with the (admittedly more selfish) side that can’t wait for it to be finished so I can take my tanks and equipment to the water via cart. Lmao
Are we still looking at 4 months? I'm assuming that would be June-ish?
I walked it about a week and a half ago. The flat part (part you walk on) was done and the end of it is a nice large platform that extends several feet over the water. The handrails weren't up yet and they still need to put in the benches and ladder into the water. It looks really nice so far. I may check it out this week.
Just an FYI, I called FWC a few minutes ago and they advised Buford is still closed, in case it saves anyone else a phone call.
Guess what, Buford is open! was driving by today and thought i would check on its progress.

There goes buford. Though now I want to go dive it and see it before it gets trampled.
Did they do anything about parking? Like expand it to a bigger area or pull down the wire that blocked the road.
parking not changed.
Nice video. I?ve never been there Can?t wait to go!

Well, it's started. An acquaintance posted on facebook for anyone that would like to join him that he'll be freediving Buford tomorrow. They built a walkway and now every idiot that thinks he can freedive deep or has an OW card is going to start hitting buford.
They were already doing that before, there’s plenty of photo and video evidence all over the internet.
No place is sacred anymore. Too many testosterone infused inconsiderate idiots getting certified.
Been doing it for >15 years - http://www.caveatlas.com/systems/sys...10&co=US&tab=3
