How do we form a new CSO for Madison Blue State Park? I dive there at least once a month, and have the resources to repair the steps if they will let me. In fact, I'm diving there on Monday and will take a few pressure treated 2 X 6s and some lag bolta along with me. Anyone interested please feel free to join in. I'll be there around 9-9:30

Why don't you send an e-mail to Kelly Jessop or Jim Womble (I think that's his last name...ohhhh....I always forget....arghh). Both those guys are very active in the Peacock springs CSO and probably can give you some helpful advice. For all I know you could be a CSO of one and get it done. :roll: Everybody loves a volunteer. :-D

Hey gang, There is already a CSO for Madison Blue, Suwannee River, Layayette Blue and another park. I forgot that parks name. They would love to have more cave divers involved. They run the soda consession at Madison Blue and are going to use the money to put in some more benches. I'll see if I can find the email link. It's a nice active bunch. They also maintain part of the Florida Trail. I just emailed my freind who run it and will have more info soon. I'll get back to you. Cindy :D
What soda concession? I only see the gate open. I haven't even seen the ranger yet! Well the Iron Ranger of course......

The more people who join their CSO and become active the more benefit that cave divers will be interpreted in providing. One thing that all state parks benefit from is volunteer hours,and the more cave divers do to help this the more attentive to our needs they can be.
Hope I don't get into trouble tomorrow fixing the steps.....

Hey, If you want to join the CSO and have questions or suggestions please send an email to wbs@surfbest.net Walter and Beth will send you an application for in the mail. They don't have a web page yet. Please remember that these guys are not cave divers. So, if you want a bench for tanks you need to tell them what you want, where you want it, give them a design and money. Or better yet get a group together and do all that but go through the CSO. They can get permission etc. for you. I don't know about hot dog stands but they will.
Personally I would not mess with the steps until you get the OK from Ed Higgins who is the manager. I know that the state is not allowing some types of lumber to be used in springs. That's why the steps at Emerald are so expensive. I don't see this as a problem as Ed is a super nice guy. He may have to give you some guidance on matterials etc. His email is Edwin.Higgins@dep.state.fl.us I would hate to see you have to take out what you are doing to help.
I love it when you guys get excited about these parks! Please do join the CSO. I think you will enjoy it as much as I have. Besides I can't always be the only cave diver. Cindy :D

The more people who join their CSO and become active,the more the recreational needs of cave divers will be acknowledged for such as things like steps,tank benches,access etc. Doing something like this doesn't take a lot of time to be active,and I have yet to ever miss a dive due to my involvment. It is hard for us to be upset with the way things happen at state parks if we aren't involved and spending time developing relationships and establishing credibility. Like CIndy said,Ed is a nice guy,and has a tough job,especially during the summer when it is busy. He surely doesn't want to deal with another compliant,but somebody offering to help with a problem will be well received. I would love to help with this one,but I have 4 state parks that keep me busy enough,hope somebody out there can step forward.Quote:

I really hope no one repaired the steps without permission. I contacted Mike and he is going to talk to management this morning, we've had donation offers and maybe there can be a work crew set up in the future with managements permission.

Hey..if anyone is interested in building or fixing steps in State Parks...start with Olsen. I'm going to take John L. to the office at Itchie and we're gonna threaten to chain ourselves to the door and poop in a bucket until they relent. :lol:
As to Madison Blue......Do people still dive that place with all those slabs and boulders that still come down every week :?: Every month I see "new" stuff.
