Is it normal on this board for moderators to moderate threads theyre participating in? Is it normal to move (aka delete) posts that don?t violate the rules? Perhaps the rules should be rewritten so everyone knows them and they can be applied equally.
?Moderators can delete posts that hurt their personal feelings?.
Hey, you lost your right to complain when you refused the relocated alligator.Quote:

So, if we want to complain we just have to load up an alligator next time we're at Peacock? I'm starting my list today so I can unleash all my complaints during my upcoming trip to cave country!Quote:

I just read the rules (again). I don't see a rule that says moderators are disallowed from moving (aka deleting) posts because they're posted in that thread. I can think of many reasons why that wouldn't work. A thread could be 10 pages long and a moderator posted just one reply. They aren't allowed to moderate? A moderator is passionate, but respectful, in a thread and then someone blatantly breaks a clear rule. They aren't allowed to moderate?Quote:

Hmmm, I guess I'll never be able to moderate this thread, now! :smt039

You know full well you were just "stirring the pot" If you don't like the moderation here, feel free to go somewhere else where they will appreciate your wiseacre comments :roll:Quote:

No rules we’re broken.
The mods break their own rules.
So much for an open, liberal, and unbiased forum.
Keep it up, and your departure won't be voluntary.Quote:

I would agree, the moderation here has served the personal agenda of one moderator. I will post examples later tonight.

Many of the forums are not so active now. thedecostop.com is not even a shell of its former self, being reduced to a shell of a shell. Reduced only to ads, and not that many of those.Quote:

Many forums do not allow any discussion of moderators or moderating. But I did look through the rules here and don't see any such prohibition.
The existence and content of this thread are a perfect example of why messageboards have been withering.Quote:

As one counterexample, motorcycle forums tend to be very active. Their FB counterparts not so much, being mostly a complete waste of time except for announcements. I think both MORGAN and Ben M are correct. The lack of activity, in part, is probably due to the fact that most things worth saying has already been said. Also, these days noobs are more likely to use the search feature to try to get answers than post the same question for the n’th time.Quote:

There seems to be at least one physician partaking in these amazing endeavors, and hopefully some records/diaries are being kept for future (or current) examination. As someone said, we are all guinea pigs in a giant DCS experiment but those doing these challenging dives more so than others. I’m less interested in those pretty pics which get old very quickly.

I will take responsibility for the post that was pulled. Was there a rule broken specifically - no. Was the post irrelevant and not with keeping with the thread-YES!!! Does the CDF have a past history of either deleting these posts or moving them-yes. The original post was a public service and an announcement, so I still retain the right to comment as a moderator, and don't feel compelled to exclude myself, but I will stay consistent with past CDF actions and pull something in accordance with past practices. For you and AJ, the first couple times it was amusing -ha ha ,but this subject has been beat to death, not only here, Scubaboard, and Facebook. I consider you guys excellent cavedivers with a wealth of knowledge that provides excellent answers here, but I have yet to understand why the pot stirring. The WKPP had a past history of being attacked for these things, which resulted in George rants, and negative image of the great things that were being done. Why do you guys, one of the public faces of the WKPP want to go back to ancient history and repeat the same stuff. I consider you guys better than this.Quote:

Probably there would be. And yes would be great to read about and to discuss those. But that is the stuff that mostly is not shared.. have I missed some interesting thread lately due to trying to filter the BS noise ?Quote:

The old Tech-list lost any substantive value because it became constant flame drama fest that had no resemblance of diving- it was a chest thumping phallic comparison site. Will things be perfect and everybody happy, no that is utopian ,but overall in comparison to other sites, it isn't too bad.Quote:

i mean, I think he was just asking for moderation according to cdf's own rules. not for anything mind-blowing.
