"Divers Break Their Own Record"
much better than saying that their gonna break a world record. And politics aside, going 20,000ft from the closest exit point is a LONG way. I'll give them props. ;-)
That's great... now if we could just get an independent dive team in there to "verify" what they say...
I'll volunteer to attempt 21,000 ft to make sure they didn't short-change themselves . . . if someone will hold my hand. :lol:Quote:

More power to em but I still think other qualified divers should be allowed to dive this publicly owned resource.
By the way, I nominate Titen for best Avatar of the year. That's classic
Sorry, Ranger, but Chunky has that award sewn up.Quote:

In case you forgot, Wakulla is just one cave in florida... there are thousands, many still unexplored. Thats the kind of caves I like...
I love the attitudes that still "surround" the groupies (sherpas) for the WKPP.
Well, most of us will never have the opportunity to do a dive like that, but we can try something that could be pretty challenging. Like a competition where you have four teams of divers at Orange Grove. Each diver has to drink a whole six pack before entering the water. Another six pack is waiting at Challenge, Olsen, and the last six pack waiting on the steps at P1. The first team that drinks all their beer, and makes it to the tailgate wins.
I have no reason to doubt their claims but video is too easily edited these days to be rock solid proof of anything. Maybe the dive computer profiles would me more credible.
Whatever was accomplished it's still impressive. Even if it wasn't quite 20,000 feet (almost 4 miles) It's still a longer penetration than most of us will ever do. Not to mention the depths.
That was a pretty presumptious first post by MrSpooley. I would have at least greeted everyone first. Maybe you struck a nerve Tegg.
I guess if it wasn't for all this open hostility this Forum would be boring.
P.S. I like how you think John.
I've always thought Nascar would be more interesting if the drivers had to Shotgun a beer at every Pit Stop ;-)
There are a few more tidbits of info in this latest article.

While I don't agree with a lot of the political stuff, I will say that that was one hell of a dive, and mucho kudos to the people involved. That kind of BT at that depth is one heck of a dive :-)
Safe diving,
Rich
You've never done that John??? I do it on every trip to cave country. I like to called the dive the "Grand Slam" instead of the grand tour.Quote:

I guess there's a new thought....don't lock the thread...just edit people's posts without their permission, much better :roll:Quote:

No one can take any credit away from these guys. Truly impressive dives. I watched the first WKPP video at the Cave Diving museum Sunday and was impressed with what all went into that event. Just setting up the deco habitat almost killed a diver and sank one of the glass bottom boats. This one was much more complicated. I personally would love to see the video of it when its done.
As Forest said it went the thread went down fast but not quite where he thought it would go....but I was laughing so hard at Johns last post and the follow up about who would open the zipper I think it would be a shame to close it.

Sorry guys, was feeling frisky this morning. Anyway, going back to the original subject, yes indeed, it was a hell of a feat. I get cold in my drysuit after a couple of hours, I don't how they kept warm that long. My hats off to them.

I bet I can design one that will work at 100' :-DQuote:

I agree that Wakulla should be open to all qualified cave divers. But there are two truths everyone should remember:
1. Life is not fair.
2. Nobody cares.
Man Bill, you are right about that one. We should be happy that we can still dive any caves, and appreciate the efforts of all the people that try to get new caves opened up.
It's their hole. they should be able to dive the whole thing by now!
35 or 40 support divers and scooters out the ying will get you there
Discovery HD Theater just aired the footage of this last night. I only saw about 45 minutes of the hour long program. Hoping to DVR it next time. Very informative.. They even talked about a lake that drained itself about 25 miles from the Springs and how it may have happened..
Name of program: Uncharted Waters: Florida's Aqua Caves
Next airing: May 30th, 2006, 3:00 pm for those that get Discovery HD.

GA Wannabe..
If you all would simply sign up for Caver95's sneak diving course you could dive where ever you want... but you have to get the card first so you can leave it on your dash board in the wee midnight hours during your dive.
