Last report on Caveatlas says basin is duckweedy but clea on 4-7-15. I'm looking for an update on conditions. Taking some OW friends to Troy and thought a splash in OG might be interesting too.

56 views and no answer?? Has no one been in OG this week?
It was clear ish on Saturday, maybe 30 feet visibility. Not crystal clear so I probably wouldn't take students but regular OW should be ok as long as they are aware of the cave and don't go in. There were a lot of people in the basin that may have lowered the viz, hard to say.
on Monday (memorial day) We Heard that the basin was all gunky (algae'ied out) almost all the way to the cavern entrance.
Remember , that says : We Heard
Not we saw...

Hmm. Anything more definitive than heard since Monday? Seems like a big stretch to go from 30' on Saturday to gunked out on Monday, but..

I dove it on Monday, the vis in first 15 feet was sucky, but cleared up in the cavern and was pristine in the cave. It takes your eyes a minute to adjust but once you got down to the trees it was fine.

Yea, too bad Ginnie does not offer a student pass for 2-4 days of certification diving. Even for weekdays would be nice, and probably increase their $. My two girls are both getting certified OW this week. They did one day at Ginnie, and were at Troy yesterday. I think they were going to OG today. I hope they get better than murky 15' vis there. :(Quote:

There was a large group from Texas A&M there doing cavern drills so that probably helped stir up the silt a tiny bit, but honestly they looked pretty good. They were very polite too. On the way out of the Olsen line, when I popped up out of the crack they scattered to get out of my way. You could tell the instructor had clued them in about exiting divers having the right of way. Kudos to him. Their line work looked pretty darn good too.
