Trying to get a poll where you click on your answers.
44 years young
18-29 yo
Merged the other age thread with this one.
Looking at the poll (which known demographics echos) looks like the CDS and NACD need to merge their journal with AARP. On serious note would verify the category of accident analysis for medical related problems.
How much of this demographic is a combo between the age of cave divers and the age of cave divers who spend a lot of time on the internet?
Age 69, while at REACT dive partner is 72. Started cave diving 1965.

Turned 19 two months ago.
Turned 66 eight days ago passed my full cave yesterday
Whould be interesting to run this poll again in 5 - 10 years and compare to this years result.
Feel free to start a new poll. However I don't think you will learn much. There are always new cave divers every year, and also dropouts each year. The other problem is some people that responded to this poll may not bother next year, or in 10 years. For example, divers near the top of their age group will end up in the next group in a year or so. That same age group will pick up new cavedivers, as well as divers that were at the top of the lower age group.
An optimistic assumption probably but I'm betting that this graph would look a lot more "bell curvey" in five years as a lot of the 50-59 age group moves to the 60-69 age group yet keeps diving...... hopefully.
I'll be with you forrest.
dive certified 14,cave and tech.@ 41 am 50 now.
Just turning 59. So almost in that next bracket. Will that mean another life's goal achieved?:?
I'm chasing you Forrest, will I catch up though?
Don't do that! You are my beacon for my old(er) age lifestyle:smt045

56 for a couple more months, but it ain't the years; it's the mileage.
I wonder if the age groups would sort into people who live in Florida, and those who don't. I would suspect the younger cohort lives in the area, whereas the older divers would include most of the out-of-towners. You have to have reached a certain income level to be able to take repeated trips to cave country, and that generally goes along with a certain degree of age.
That's what I was thinking, i.e. why is the 50-59 category so well represented? Could it be that:
1) By that age the kids have left home (DINK)
2) By that age your wife (or husband) is more than willing to let you spend some time on your own?
3) By that age you feel there is less to lose if any mishaps occur?
4) This is the last chance to see/show how brave you are?
5) You have got bored of all the female divers at open water aquarium-type dive sites?
6) By that age you realize there is more to life than what work and marriage offers?

Now i'm in the 30-40 lol ouch
I'm in my mid 50's and diving is my primary physical fitness program at > 100+ dives/yr. However polls like this cause me concern because I'd like to continue to experience time underwater till my final days which will hopefully be mid 80s plus! I truly wish we had more 60+yr old participants!

Cavern at 25, guess I don't technically belong in the "Cave Diver Forum"...don't shun me! :smt081
I did Full Cave at 18 - never wanted to be a cave diver, just wanted the techniques so i could progress with my wreck diving.
I am now 26 looking back the past 10 trips I have done have been cave trips and I even moved to Mexico for 7 months to be able to dive caves every day...... I guess my wreck diving plan did not work out as it was supposed to...
25 here, full cave. Can't say that I ever see many cave divers my age at sites.
23 here. It's not really a normal qualification I have but its equivalent to full cave.

Never say you don't belong Ash ! Cavern-cave or just free diving....your interest & taking part in learning of this activity more than anything serves to let you take part on this forum. TJ & Russel amongst several others will vouch for this, as will I ! Pursue your dreams & let those who belittle you for doing so, get fat & ugly ! :) keep moving forward !
