Anyone know anything about this? Caught it on the news after work today. Is there really a cave there?

Hmm, interesting. Would amaze me if there is anything there to note. Seems like the gurus would have checked it out by now. Either way, kudos to this crew for trying.
Would be great if there was something note worthy there, all politics asides [ crap, did I sound condescending, just saying :) ]
Special forces dive team???? As in military or some self proclaimed dive club?
Dude. When they go, I wanna watch, dive club, special forces or otherwise. Either way if there is a cave that no one knows about it's going to have line in it. Probably before these guys get there.
Yeah I have a feeling this is some ow divers. I didn't know if anyone knew who it was.
Lol! OW divers good enough to be called special forces. They probably only have AOW. :-) Or some PADI special forces specialty.
More then most think about our special forces..

The best part of that report was the Florida Lottery Commercial. He didn't try to find anyone too hard if no one on here wasn't asked.
It is my understanding that cave divers asked permission to dive it many years ago, but were refused. I guess that sort of information isn't passed down from mayor to mayor :-)
I spoke with a local about 5 years ago who was a cave diver. He "said" he had dove a couple of days in the lake to search for springs. He said that he found two places where the water was basically exiting through the sand, but he never found any significant depressions, cavern, and certainly not a cave. I think the mayor may be trying to lure some of the money being spent in Marianna over to DeFuniak.
Here's my post from when this came up three years ago:
Years ago I searched Lake Defuniak for cave. We scootered the entire lake, and found nothing. Bottom is not solid, I recall sticking my arm in up to my shoulder. Two things to consider:
1)We could have missed something, the visibility is not as clear as it appears from the surface.
2)We found cave and are keeping it a secret.
Serously, there's no cave there from what I saw.
Kevin
Thanks for the info. I didn't expect there was anything as I have never heard anyone mention it. Of course I have been pleasantly surprised by springs I have never heard about before.
We dove "marigold spring" many years ago and found no cave although the owner insisted it was there. It was very deep silt and poor viz, so maybe we missed it, but the flow was non detectable too. The mosquitoes were really thick. Marigold, as I understand it, was owned by the former owner of Crystal Spring and was planned to be a cave diving site, but Florida prohibited certain excavations the owner wanted to do.....
