Faber Lp 85 exemption cylinders in great condition. Left and right Dive Rite valves. Born in 2007 with a 6/13 hydro and Vis. These tanks are built from a lighter steel then normal Faber Lp tanks and cannot be overfilled. Located at Cave Excursions in Live Oak, FL.
Hmm, didn't know anything about these tanks. And I sell a butt ton of fabers (metric butt ton, not imperial butt ton). Can you post a picture with some numbers in them? I'd like to contact blue steel about these.
I think its a FX100LF, 2640 psi only holding around 80 cubic feet, these are not lp85s.

I believe you are correct.
I have seen these cylinders and they are indeed LP-85's that are DOT exempted (correct term?). These are not FX cylinders. I have never seen LP exempted cylinders however we did confirm with Dave the hydro guy that is what they are. They look new and have just been through hydro however Dave was very clear that they will not handle a cave fill due to their thinner walls and lower hydro pressure. He suggest a max hot fill of 3300 psi that cools to 3K.
I know Jager13, he is a stand up honest person. Unfortunately the individual that sold him the cylinders, from this board, was not honest about them. Since Jager13 has put them up for sale I am assuming that the person that sold them to him will not something out with Jager13 to make this right. That is unfortunate yet as Jager13 said is his post he wants anyone interested in these cylinders to understand that they can't put cave fills in these cylinders.
I dont doubt that Jager13 is a stand up guy, and will have no problem posting the numbers.. Unfortunately he thought he was buying LP85's(L85DVB) which these are not, so to keep that from happening again(to someone else) have him post the tank numbers so the same thing doesn't happen to someone else. There is nothing wrong with FX100LF's if thats what they are, they're lighter than an aluminum 80, for someone with a back problem they're great. You can't fill them to 3300 psi however. it might be better to post them on Scuba Board.Quote:

I couldn't believe they were not already taken. I felt so lucky to still have a chance. Then I read the thread.
I'm sure they will still suit someones needs just fine though.
DOT-E13488-2640. This is the DOT number for the tank. It also has TP-3960 on it but I do not know what that number is for.
TP-3960 is test pressure, I believe.
The E means its exempt, all exempt cylinders are FX series, but this is not a standard FX series 3442. Its a FX100LF not a FX100 they stopped making them because they didn't sell. Some where on the back of the tank not near the other numbers it is stamped BSE-80L which means Blue Steel Exempt 80 cubic feet Low pressure. This tank was designed to give the diver 80cf of gas, and be lighter than an alm. 80. It was made on 02/2006 because I called the dive shop and got the numbers then called Jim at Blue Steel. It's the perfect tank for an open water diver with a bad back, as a lighter alternative to a aluminum 80. it is not recommended by the manufacturer to fill past 2640, but when has anyone listened to the manufacturer.Quote:

These are not 2400+ they are 2640 no plus. You don't want to fill these past 2640.
Below is what we got from Dave Zapalla from Advanced Hydrotest. We passed this information to all employees of CCDS and we all will act accordingly.

There is an exemption tank (Faber 85) made from STEEL ALLOY that is extremely similar in appearance to the standard STEEL Faber 85s.You will find the markings for these cylinders state "e-13488-2640"where 2640 is the actual FILL PRESSURE for this tank.
Following those markings there is also "tp3960" which is the testing pressurefor this tank. As advised by Advanced Hydrotest these tanks should not be filled past 2900psi.
They are an overall thinner tank; a good way to check (if the markings on the tank cannot be read) will be to see if it floats while having 2400psi in it. If this is the case you are dealing with a Faber exemption 85 cylinder.
By that logic, we shouldn 't be filling true LP85's to 4000. :)Quote:

At any rate, I appreciate all the comments. I'm glad this post was posted as I buy a lot of used tanks and sell a lot of new and used tanks. I had no idea about this tank and I'm glad I didn't get burned and/or killed. Thanks everyone.
At DEMA one year Bill High asked me if I overfilled my steel cylinders. I said absolutely not; I NEVER take my 2400psi cylinders past 3600. Overfilling them would be unsafe.

If this holds 80ishCF and is lighter than an AL80... wouldn't these make great stage tanks, since most people carry AL80's with them for that purpose? Imagine lightening the load!
I can buy a lot of used AL80's for what these cost.
If they are filled to 3000psi(not recommended) they hold 100 cubic feet of air. That are great for open water divers with a bad back l.
You've said this several times. Just what is the weight of these things in and out of the water? Since they float when full, some extra lead is going to be needed over what would be needed with an AL80, so I'm curious how much benefit they actually give.Quote:

I was referring to weight out of the water, they are lighter then an alm 80.
The new spec sheet doesnt list the empty/full weight anymore, since they aren't making them anymore.
Hmm, poking around on the web from some old Faber info I find 25 pounds as the empty weight in air. Compared to maybe 32 for an AL80. Now it would be nice to know full weight in water.....
I think they would float like a cork.Quote:

Interesting....the Faber is about as buoyant when full as the AL80 is when empty! So the OW diver will need to carry about 6 pounds more lead with the Faber than he/she does with the AL80....but the tank is 7 pounds lighter than an AL80 out of the water...not much gain, it seems.
It's a displacement thing, that is of course how much water the vessel displaces. Bottom line, your going to carry the weight either in the tank or in lead on your body.Quote:

Yep. When I said, "They are supposedly the same size as the FX100" I meant the same displacement, external size, not internal size or capacity.Quote:
