Heard from a buddy today that Manatee was like coffee. They didnt even dive and according to the state park site, it is closed to swimming due to a brown out water condition.

Not good.
Holy crap!
I know that was in my dive plan but guess not now and I guess Ginnie will start going down now.
Hmm just making plans to dive there on the 23rd.
Possibly need a rethink of that eh?
I will be watching this thread carefully.

Was your buddy talking about the headspring or Catfish? The headspring has flooded, they only allow swimming in the headspring, therefore Manatee closed to swimming, but may still be open to diving.
I was at Manatee on Wed, river has not come up much since then and Catfish was clear.
He said the head spring was like coffee and catfish looked normal with duck weed and he couldnt really tell wat it actual looked like. The ranger told them that if the state closes one it wont be long till all is closed...now I understand its for swimmers now but it may happen soon. I hope not tho...
River was about 3 feet higher than current after TS Debby and Catfish never closed, IIRC.
cool. I hope it doesnt or Ginnie will have to hand out numbers to dive.....
Paul and I were just there today. The water is very clear, vis is excellent and flow is low. We dove Friedman's and the Chalkey Bypass circuit. Catfish Hotel is still open and clear.
I had two phenomenal dives today at Manatee (Catfish Hotel). As stated above, the head spring is closed (water level is WAY up). The water in Catfish Hotel is about 3 1/2' deep at the platform at the bottom of the stairs (ideal depth/spot to gear up in sidemount). Viz in the system was as far as my LM 12watt would shine--and the flow is really low. We entered at catfish, and swam upstream 600' past Sue's sink (almost to Friedman's) on thirds w/LP-85's on the first dive. Second dive I shot some video and we just went upstream to Sue's Sink. Daylight was penetrating to the floor at Sue's. Couldn't have had a nicer dive!
Well good to know its still good...I was hoping it was.....
Ginnie isn't anywhere near close to going.... The water level is barely up at barely any tannic water trying to get in the ear... I'd say flow is up for Ginnie though... The ear is clear of any debris at the bottom it's crazy
Dived Manatee Springs, Catfish Hotel, today. VIS great, current ZERO...

TJ, looks like the water level is up even higher in Catfish. When we were there on Thursday, the water level at the bottom platform was only at chest level....
The Suwannee has crested as far south as Rock Bluff, but not at Manatee. It doesn't appear that it will get into the parking lot, so it should stay open.
We were tippy toeing on that concrete slab when we arrived, but by the time the picture was taken, we could stand on it, but that could have been tidal...

Here we are gearing up for our first dive on 3/7, standing on the concrete platform. Quite a difference in water depth!
It was good seeing you at Manatee yesterday Tom.

Are you able to dive from Catfish to the head spring? I know the head is brown but can you make the dive.
Ok thanks. Wasn't sure if it was mixing in the cave or not. Just would be cool to see, but no worries won't be doin that.
According to EE's Facebook page it has started to slowly syphon.
hmmmm.... James, can I push you in and see how long it takes to shot you out and how high??
LOL...its a scientific experiment...
