I know they are still moving inventory into the shop, but I believe they are able to pump gas already! The guys running the place are top notch and I think there will finally be a headache free cave diver shop in the area.
Whats wrong with Wakulla Diving Center in Crawfordville?
I saw several friends like the new shops facebook but couldn't figure out who owns/operates it...anyone online know?
Awesome location, 3min from Wakulla and not much further from Emerald, Indian, Clearcut, Church, Harveys, etc. I can't wait to check this place out, could be a game changer for those of us coming from Orlando who had to get all our gas in High Springs before
2017 Bloxham Cutoff Rd
Crawfordville, FL 32327
It's on hwy 267 about 2 miles east of hwy 319.
For one, WDC is in Medart, near the coast, not on the way to anything. Two, it can be such a PITA to get fills there if you don't have fresh VIPS, hydros, and barcodes. Luckily for them, the biggest headache employee they had went off to school.
Like a mile west of Indian on 267
Steve Cushman and Colin Irons
What are the barcodes for?

I don't really know -- figured he was being sarcastic.
Cheers,

That's funny Jeff!
anyone have a phone # or website?
Those guys are great guys and divers. I look forward to coming to see them.
Guess they finally bailed out of Texas huh? I used to use their shop in Dallas when I lived there, always were very nice/helpful.

Okay, that's enough. Lots of places have two shops because some people feel the first shop in an area doesn't serve everyone well. I happen to work in two shops a mile apart - one is 40 years old and one is seven. But we get along.
Inflammatory remarks about any shop will cause this thread to be closed.
To have another shop in the area will be nice and they are in a good location. Ive have been dealing with WDC since 2007 and while i have had a few differences with them, they continue to go above and beyond to help. The tank system they use can be a little time consuming at first but when its setup it is very convenient. I mean come on, you pull in the back of the building they unload your tanks for you, scan them and as long as they are in vip and hydro your filled quickly loaded back up and on your way. IMO they guys at WDC do a great job.
I agree. I know both these guys and can tell you they are not in for mudslinging unless it is in a hole somewhere. The shop was a dream that just happened to fall into reality. These guys are here for one purpose... Diving. With that, they only wish to bring about a means for all divers to enjoy what the big bend area has to offer. After diving in this area for years, the two decided this was the place for them. They are both cave and trimix instructors and board members of the Aquatic Science Association Inc.
With that said, they are open and providing fills. Any other information you can contact them directly at steve@caveconnectionsflorida.com or colin@caveconnectionsflorida.com.
What the hell is the Aquatic Science Association Inc.? It looks like a business, being incorporated, but you made it sound like a non-profit. Plus I cannot find it anywhere on the internet.
Also on their website they have a "Guided Dives" section, where do they plan on guiding dives next to Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park? Almost all the caves in the area are closed off. Are they a GUE/WKPP shop? That would be the only way I would see them being able to guide dives in anything other than Clear Cut or Emerald.
I'm not so sure why you're instantly challenging a shop that hasn't even opened yet. I'm sure they could set you up with a guided dive at Indian when it's the season for it, Harveys, or Emerald/Clearcut if you don't have a dive buddy. The Wacissa has several nearby caves and Jackson Blue is just as close as High Springs instructors who advertise guided Peacock dives.
If they sell trimix that you can get FAST who cares?
Thank you for the update. I really appreciate someone opening a shop nearby to WSSP to hopefully get a better turnout at Clearcut and Emerald as well as Indian during season. With how often these are blown out and closed it's no doubt a tough spot, but I'll be sure to stop by and check it out next time I'm in the area.
I am not challenging it, just asking some simple questions. Does that offend your sensibilities? If so, I am extremely sorry.
Hmmm people that just moved into the area giving me a guided dive in Indian or people who have been there for years and dove it consistently, I chose the latter of the two.
Why in god's name would I pay someone to drive 2 hours to Jackson Blue to guide my dive? I would much rather have Edd do that or anyone else who dives there weekly for that matter. High Springs is 45 min from Peacock, vs Wakulla Area to JB is more like 2 hours. So your comparison is simply invalid.
Trimix is trimix, why would I drive all the way over in the middle of nowhere Wakulla to buy it when I can stay on a highway to get it? Unlike you, the rest of us don't get to dive Wakulla.
Jordan both of those guys have more time in those caves than you can come close too for years and did dives a lot deeper and more complex than you have experienced. Maybe you should find out about them before ranting.
Kevin, it doesn't mean that they know the local caves better than a lot of people that live in the area. Hell I was even going to throw your name out there for JB, but I didn't know if you did guided dives. Plus, just because someone has more dives does not make them a better diver, you know that.
These guys do know the caves there that well. That's the point. Colin showed me tons in JB and he knows peacock better than most I have met. He averaged well over 100 dives in the area for over ten years, both of them actually. Just remember, just because they don't cyber dive like a lot of us doesn't mean they are unknown. And yeah, you are right. Five numbers dont mean much as far as ability, diving with these two is like diving with Edd. They are jam up.
Jordan,
Just because you don't understand something is not a reason for you to get your nickers in a twist. These guys are good, they can and will guide locally and there are a lot more caves to dive than you've been given access to. There enough room in this area for two shops and I would have no problem in dealing with either of them. Frankly your attitude in this post is one more reason to keep you out of them.
Don't expect a reply any time soon.
wth, what did he get banned for now?
He was warned for his public posts. The ban happened afterwards.
What can I say, I've been spoiled by cave shops to the point where I don't want to deal with recreational shops and all of their scuba industry standards.
I'm also looking forward to being able to get fills without driving 45 minutes each way.
What do you have against the new dive shop?
Shouldn't you relish at the idea of some new blood in the area working on getting sites opened?
By people who have been there for years and are diving it consistently, do you mean Gregg? He's boycotted Emerald and Indian for years ontop of years because he can't dive there without a guide or with a rebreather.
Last I heard, the only helium available in a Wakulla County dive shop was Cave Connections. When I asked about Trimix at WDC the last time I was in there, about a month ago, I was told it'd be three months by NorthWoodsDiver. Indian is opening well before that(although I'm not sure if its worth diving ATM?).
Bottom line, competition is good for many reasons. It's the American way. We all benefit. If the shop isn't any good, people aren't knowledgeable, don't have good business practices, they won't last long.
If they are good, good businessmen etc., they will prosper and grow, and all of us consumers will benefit.
I like having choices
Well, I am genuinely confused by all of this hostility. I welcome Steve and Colin to the area, and look forward to working with them. I have the same advise for anyone getting into the dive business...seek immediate counseling, have your friends stage an intervention, start drinking heavily.
Mat, try not to spread the BS too far, it is already getting too thick. All businesses operate on some model of their own choosing. You worked with Stanton for years, if you want to take your business elsewhere fine, but to take cheap shots on your way out the door is childish and non productive.
In the Tallahassee area, there are now 5 shops. You can get air or nitrox at Coral Reef Scuba, Blue Water Sports (sometimes), Down Under Dive Shop in Crawfordville, Wakulla Diving Center, and now Cave Connections. Trimix at Wakulla and Cave Connections. Be adults, call these shops, find out their business practices and pick the one that offends you the least. But don't spend your life bad mouthing everyone else, it is just foolish.
Just a correction the new shop may not be open for business yet, i stopped by at about 1pm today for a fill just to see how things were and while there was a car parked there the place was locked up tight and not a soul to be seen. Maybe some hours can get posted and an opening date named??
I'll still be working with Gregg with the WCDC and when WDC is convenient. All I said was it would be nice to have a shop without the annoyances I've dealt with at WDC, JCook wanted them(annoyances) layed out, so I listed as requested. I've continually done business with WDC over the past 2 years regularly and several years before that when I was diving in the Tallahassee area before being a FL resident. I dealt with what I didn't like about them, because they were the only real acceptable option. I've voiced my opinions about them before, its not like I'm doing it while running out the door now...
They've always known what I wanted out of them, its no secret now, nor 2 years ago. Its up to them to change it or not; and up to me to like it or not.
