What is special about these cylinders? I have two older AL 72 that are just a little smaller than 80s (not floaters) are these the same?
they make great buddy bottlesdue the their streamline.
Are you looking to get rid of them??
I got mine yesterday, rigged one up and went diving. The bouyancy and slimmer profile made quite a difference. It didn't feel like an anchor on my side.
I'm rigging my other one up tighter and will be diving it tonight.
Wayne:
What's the difference in size and bouyancy characteristics between the 72's and the 80's?
By the way, ask Lee to contact me. I've gotten no replies to the last E-mails that I've sent him.

Man, I dove one last night as a stage/buddy bottle and it rocked, rode really high and tight and the buoyancy characteristics are excellent.....Quote:

Are these just a little shorter and skinnier than an 80?
Not really shorter (okay, it's 1/10th of an inch shorter), but it's skinnier (6.89" diameter versus 7.25" for an 80).
All the specs are at http://www.luxfercylinders.com/produ...imperial.shtml .
Russell
P.S. This is assuming these are Luxfers.
They are....Quote:

Jay, if you didn't preorder them from us, we don't have any available....Quote:

Here's just a friendly reminder on the Al 72's the ones with a "Y" prefix in the serial number are the ones you want. not the ones with a "Z" The Z series are not desirable for anything. Also the al-72's are only an advantage if you have a sac rate of .45 or below. and if the whole team is using them. otherwise you had best just use them for deco bottles, not for stages.
just 2 cents worth from someone who's been diving them for 10 years
What does the letter denote? floater or non? Or the Alloy?
no, the alloy used depends on the vintage, the Z series are only 2400psi working pressure, and are very buoyant. to the point of being dangerous.
They make great buddy bottles also... :-DQuote:

Yes those floaters are scary. I have two older al 72s that are like the ones you are talking about. I like them very much they just seem a little more compact then the 80s. Do keep in mind that if you are using one as a buddy and your back gas is say pumped 104s then one third is more than your total buddy so total gas loss at max would be a problem.
thats why all the Ginnie divers like Rich love the Al72s for buddy bottles. because in ginnie a 30 minute swim in, loss of backgas at max penetration only means a 7-9 minute swim back out in that flow  the rule of 3rds in ginnie is quite funny. you use 1/3rd on the swim in...and maybe 1/16th on the way out hahaQuote:

One should never count on "the flow" to help you....
When I solo, I plan for instantaneous back gas loss at max penetration and being able to get out...
If scootering I plan for loss of scooter also....
...plus I know how much gas it takes me to swim out fom various areas of the cave!!
BTW there's no flow in the back of Mainland, or the Split for that matter

damn Rich, I thought you guys up at Cave Excursions knew how to take a joke...but regardless. if you're gonna be solo diving do it right...go SidemountQuote:

Talk to you soon, bud.

Sounds like the slimmer cylinders and some KY will help you get comfy with the back half then, Rich  :monkeybrainsQuote:
