I wish I hadn't gotten two SS backplates from another source last year - this one looks so much cooler. Plus, the bend on the ones I got aren't deep enough to reach my bolts.
But I got a set of Bonediver's sidemount plates and they're NICE!

i'm in the same boat, just bought one a few weeks ago, wish I had seen this. Why are the SM plates twice as much since it's less steel with same amount of cuts?
Demand is the correct answer. There are 2 major manufactures right now building the harness system. Steve Bogearts, and UDT. Both of them sell complete Harness for $200.00-300.00.
You can build the harness for about 140-150 with my plates..
Hope this helps.
-Matt.
lol, I thunk I just had a cranial rectal inversion!
Nope: UDT = Universal Diver Training

Wow. I can't believe someone named an agency with a TLA already in common use.
Also the Backplate cant be made for $40.00... The Stock is almost that much.. I just have the plate sitting on the Shelf, just trying to get rid of it. If I were to sell them, I would be selling them for 90.00 USD.
Backplate spoken for.
(1) set of plates spoken for.
Only 1 set left! anyone looking to get in to sidemount diving this is a great rig!
Where do you recommend to buy the webbing for your plates?
Do you have a source other than a dive equipment retailer?
-Jon
google seattle fabrics. Great company!
Is the SM plates stainless steel also (grade?) and what is the dark finish? If the wife didn't get the Razor for me for Christmas, I'll be getting back to ya!
I'd like to buy the second set of sidemount plates. PM sent ...
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Been away for the holidays!
The SM plates are 316 SS .090 thick. The Matte finish is obtained by using glass in a bead blaster.
All of the plates are currently spoken for. PM me for more details on possibly getting another set made.
I have the set of sidemount plates I got from him with me this weekend (socials). Anybody wants to see them, just ask.
Thanks for offering to show the plates off, I really appreciate it!
Have you had a chance to get them wet yet? Let me know!

The backplate is back on the market. Havent heard from the buyer in awhile. $50.00 USD Shipped. Anyone interested?
-Matt.
Sorry man, missed your PM somehow... will respond now.
Any news on the new run of sidemount plates? :)
Actually I am getting another quote from a different laser shop currently. They produce a VERY high quality laser cut finish.. My over costs may go up.. However I will try not to affect the buyers cost.. I would lose a few more dollars and have a super quality product for people to show off!!
I will let you know soon as I make my decision on who is going to make my next run of plates.
Thanks!
-Matt.
I have the new batch of sidemount plates. The quality is un-beatable! The laser work is smooth as butter and the stainless plate is just about flawless! For anyone that is interested in starting sidemount diving, get them while there hot!
Since I am building them in higher quantitys, I am able to offer them at a reduced rate of $65.00 + $5.00 S/H. Your total price for a sidemount harness would be around $130.00 out the door when your done with all the rest of the hardware.
-Matt.
I can vouch for his work on the BP. It is excellent. I would not hesitate to buy these SM plates.
How much for just the waist plate?
How much of a bend do the rings have? From the pic, it looks like they're relatively flat (10-20 degrees-ish)
-Jon
Jon,
I actually do not build the plate with the D-ring currently. I opted out of the D-ring to be able to use the UTD wing with the harness system. That being said! I do have 1 set of those plates with the D-ring left.. I could part with the lower plate, PM me!
-Matt.
Hello everyone,Im Dominic. I am new to the forum. I don't have alot of experience with online forums,so im not sure if I was supposed to start a new thread to introduce myself. If I was I'm sorry about that.
Matt, I am very interested in your sidemount plates. How would I go about buying a set from you?
Dominic,
Welcome to the forum! A lot of good info on this forum.

Hey Matt, Thanks for the quick shipping. I am very happy with the quality of the plates.
got mine today and cant wait t try them out....
I made my first dive with a harness made from these plates. I have to say, it was beyond my expectations. I was completely at peace for the entire dive. The quality of these plates is top notch. Cuts are as smooth as you can get. Finish is even. I couldn't have asked for more. The only problems I had were all due to the ridiculous amount of adjustability with a setup like this. It took me a bit to figure out how to weave everything, but trial and error works. I would recommend to weave it without d-rings the first time, get it figured out, then go back and add them.
I think the only thing I could ask for on these would be slots for a 1" crotch strap... but that would mean a 1" back strap too, don't know if that would be any issue.
Great! Glad you like the quality of the plates. I try! The 1" strap is def. a mod I can do. I will make 25% of my next batch with 1" slots. see how they work!
Dive safe!
-Matt.
For those of you that are curious. I do still sell SM plates.
I laser cut all the parts out of 316 SS. The cuts are smooth and clean as can be. I hand file each slot to ensure that you will be getting a good life from the webbing being ran through them. I also guarantee the parts. If you somehow manage to break a plate, I will replace it.
Current price that I sell them for is $65.00 a set + $5.00 Shipping in the USA. International shipping is around $14.00. PayPal is matt@deepstopdiving.com
I am a 1 man setup and I do this as a hobby, so bear with me on the time frame. I usually am able to get the plates out to USPS within 2 days of the payment clearing.
Here is a PDF file I put together showing the proper weaving of the upper plate. Also a picture of the current quality of the plates.

Bonediver, are the plates threaded already for the book screws?
No, the holes are 3/8" through holes. Book screws are designed to have a through hole that they are inserted in to. When screwed together the threads are mated internally.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
-Matt.
Hey Matt,
Looks like the new run of sidemount plates don't have the bent D-rings built into them. Were they removed due to feedback from users?
[edit] Just re-read the thread and saw you got rid of the bent d-rings to go with the UTD wing!
Do you still have that last set with the bent rings? If so I'll take them.
Lenaxia,
I can do more "D-ring" Plates. However it will be about 1 month before I can get more stainless and setup the laser to cut them. Never had any complaints on the D-ring kit! I myself prefer the D-rings. Have a great day!
-Matt.
I definitely know what you mean Greenwood, and going back and looking at it, it looks like the bent-d-rings may not work with the wing I am planning on using.
Matt, do you know for certain whether or not the BAT-wing from Bogaerts will get in the way of the D-ring access? It looks like the wing goes down and over the lower plate. Would prefer the bent d-rings, but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
I Would go with the Flat backplate just too keep things comfortable. Just a side note, my plates do work with the large UTD wing. Here are some pictures of it rigged up.

Hey, that looks a lot like my rig. I just put the Z-plus wing on y harness I built with your plates.
Matt, what did you do with the side elastic straps and attached sliders? I cant seem to make thse stay "attached" as they just pull through and they seem too high to attach to the belt. Did you attach them to the belt somehow, or to the harness chest straps at the back (this is what I did, but I'm having an issue dumping air).
Descriptions/pictures would be appreciated.
-Steve
And I'm using bent D rings on the shoulders and the rear belt. They work great. I adjusted them out just past the Z+wing so it didnt interfere with clipping off tanks.
Steve,
Honestly not exactly sure on all the details of the wing with the harness setup. The pictures are from one of my customers who actually is a repeat buyer. He now owns 2 sets of plates for 2 separate setups for diving Alu's and Steels. Perhaps I could have him chime in here and describe in detail what his methods are. Have a great day!

D rings http://www.diverightinscuba.com/cata...ng-p-2859.html Have A great day.talk to ya soon
Hey guys, I have a question on the threading of the upper plate. I have read and looked at the PDF that Matt posted but I still have a question.
How many of you are putting book screws in the top plate to hold the shoulder straps in place? I'm looking at mine and realized that the hole is too high and that burning a hole in the webbing will be super close to the edge and will probably rip if any stress is put on it.
Is there something I'm missing? Or have you guys just not put anything in?
Same here. Hole does seem to be too high. I am using some incredibly stiff webbing as well, and it doesn't like that bend. I chose to clamp that bend in to the webbing by leaving vise-grips on it over several nights. A real vise would have worked better. You could always drill another hole. Don't know if I will bother.
I have not read all the replies on this thread so forgive me if you answered this already. I was wondering why you wanted to sell these products. I mainly want to know because I am switching from back mount to side mount. I would like to know if you don't like these or if you have something better etc...just some advice on your preferred side mount rig would be cool. Thanks a lot.
Hi Matt got anymore of these SM plates ? email:randallised@gmail.com
hi every one, I have made a small modifikation to my "top plate" that eliminates the problem with bending harness webbing.
with 2 ekstra cut´s in the plate it is posible to sew it through the plate with out deforming the webing
another modification i have made is led pockets, building these Zeagle pockets in gives you the opportunity to change the weight rapidly and these pockets have never failed one mi and with 2 pockets it´s possible to carry up to 24 lbs ( diving dry, in cold water with 80 cf alu tanks)
only problem is making room for d-rings one the belt with my small waist
