Cave Diving once a week just isn't enough. Damn this pesky job.
I totally know how you feel.. I am travelling now and so I'm cyberdiving, desperate to get some sort of fix. 2 more weeks!
Work has been hit or miss for me since the housing industry crashed. I was able to dive as much as I want. I'm happy I have a stable income with great benefits, but I miss diving whenever I want.
Are you guys serious? Stop rubbing salt in my wounds! :smt013
I've been thinking about quiting my job and just becoming a dive bum! I'll just hang out in cave country and I'll offer my services(whatever that might be) to people for training and gas! I mean, all I really need is pretty wet rocks.
That's why it's vital to marry a rich woman. I discovered this rule shortly after I failed to follow it. <sigh>
So,...
I'm teaching my son that
1) He needs a wealthy woman.
2) He needs a woman who will be a good mother to their kids.
3) He needs a woman who is a nymphomaniac and has eyes only for him.
4) He needs to be sure that these women never meet one another.
What are you talking about, Superlyte? You can't have more than sixteen or seventeen cave dives.
Here's how I came up with that: I figure everybody has about ten posts on the CDF for every cave dive they've made - I have 600 cave dives and 6,000 posts. So that works out, right?
:smt102
I need to catch up - I'm behind in my posting! 157 cave dives and only 919 posts. I was just about to leave to go diving at OG, but maybe I'll stay here at the Outpost and try to make up my 651 post deficit.
Then again, maybe not! :)

Oh, I'd kill to be able to cave dive once a week . . . Twice a year is not enough!
In my little article in Cave Diving: A&O, I hit the nail on the head - although there are many, many cave divers that would LOVE to be a three-hour drive from the caves, I'm jealous of the cave divers that live a five-MINUTE drive from the caves!
You're so right Sludge. I live 2 1/2 - 3 hours away from cave country. It sucks because the diving I want to do is close enough to not be long drive but still too far to just run to the caves for the day. I do make the day trips as often as possible, but if I was just an hour closer I think I could make it up there much more often....
If I liked Ginnie, and had an annual pass, I would be cave diving alot more at night. It's about 90'ish minutes from my house
Once a week and you guys are complaining...i have a 17 hour drive to cave country requiring that Cora and i sleep at a rest stop in bfe
moving out to gainsville next year
California may be better for the career but florida is better for the soul, easy choice
I know several folks that have up-rooted and moved to be closer to the diving they want to do. I have moved through several different jobs, but I always ensure I keep my diving easily accessible. I love my current location; I have great caves 30 to 90 minutes from home, nice wrecks with a 30 minute to 3 hour boat ride, and decent shore diving 15 minutes from the door. I usually dive 3 to 4 days a week. Last night I was playing hide and seek with a juvenile Jew fish in and out of the rocks for 45 minutes off the beach, and this weekend I have plans to dive springs on the Econfina on Saturday and Merrits Mill Pond on Sunday. As cool as it is being close to wrecks/reefs/springs I do envy folks that come on holiday and dive every day for a week or two. My job rarely allows for a good dose of all day every day dives.
Hope to see you all out diving soon….
Cheers,
Mark
right now I live 1 hour from jb and I just found out I have orders to japan for 3 years. I dont want to hear it
Kind of like me, you'll have great diving just not any caves or are there caves in Japan? I love the diving here in Hawaii but I sure wish there was a good spring close by. I guess it boils down to no one is ever satisfied with what they have.
i was. never complained about the drive to the caves. and i hate ocean diving.
Wasn't just refering to you on the part of not being satisfied, just a reference in general to the human race. But BTW, since you hate ocean diving, you selling any gear before you go? Wouldn't want that gear to just sit up and dry rot or anything. JK Who are you gonna be with over there?
5th force recon I guess they stood it back up
Yeah, every cave diving trip for me starts with $500 in airfare . . .
Just $150 for the airfare for me... But I really cannot leave the career now to move to cave country.. I like what I am doing as much as I like cave diving.. darn conflicting loves!
A trip generally costs me around $10 everything in gas, fills ( 3 AL 80's) and cenote entrance (if shared). From leaving home, I can be there and back in 2.5 hours if I am organized. There are some bad things about living in the Riviera Maya, but there are some very good things too.
that's cruel Alan!
But it's good to be so lucky sometimes!
Off to Sagrado by the way!
;)
I live about 4.5 hours from the nearest spring but can be to JB in a little over 5 hours. Over the summer I drove to Pensacola/Orange beach several times and made a few shore dives then headed home that afternoon......pretty long day!
Once a week?! once a WEEK! puleaz.... You make me wanna cry... :) I drove almost once a month (sometimes 2x this past few months) to FL from MD for once a month deal. sheesh!
Hey guys, while we're talking about my once a week dive, My buddy cancelled on me for tomorrow Sunday 10/10. Anyone want to dive in or around Peacock, Madison, Little River or....
