Does anyone know if LR is open? If so what are the conditions? Thinking about coming down next week.

I doubt that it is open, but I would bet the current is very high, looking at the rate the river is falling. With the rain in GA today, that may not last long, though.
thanks, theres always Ginnie!
And Manatee, and right now Madison is also open. Have a great trip!
Gate was still closed two days ago...I'll look at it later today and post what I find...last look was the entrance road was still flooded but the parking lot was dry...Ken
and you can always go to Marianna where Twin, Hole, and JB are reported open.
I drove by Little River yesterday 10 March. Gates to the park were closed ...I think largely due to water over the park entry road at the low point before the parking lot. As to the spring ...forget about it! You can't even see the top of the stone wall and there was no apparent boil. The entire spring was an extremely dark tannic water. This will not be diveable in the near future in my opinion....three weeks at least.
Little River has been open for almost a week, but the water levels are still up to the landing
on the stairs. Someone needs to dive it and tell me how cold it is.
Chris
will do, next week. i'm bringing an extra fleecy vest for these chillier-than-usual spots!
Don't forget the trash bag Tony.
OK guys and girls, I dove LR late on the 3rd of April, and I just wanted to give you all a quick report.
LR is starting to flow again, there was no visible boil on the surface, but it is definitely detectable once in the cave. Water temps are about 68 degrees and visibility averages between 20-30 feet. Expect your depths to be slightly deeper than "normal". @ 1100 feet of penetration my max depth was 113'. The basin was clear enough that I didn't feel that leaving a line from the steps to the gold line was necessary.
Be aware that the parking lot was full and the only parking was on the grassy areas, and I was the only diver there. Lots of people enjoying the nice weather, the water and the alcohol !!!!!
We just got out of LR. Vis sucked. Headed to Peacock.
:rollguy
he was behind me so I am sure it could have been better......
Twenty feet. And that's generous. My instructor would have called it ten.
From table rock I couldn't see where the line starts in the mud tunnel.
Ah Russell, you are just spoiled !!! You may have had an instructor that would have called that 10 ft of vis, but technically looking up from the very bottom of the cavern zone you could see the opening of the cavern above.....That's at least 70 feet of vis right there !!!! :yawinkle:
People have different methods of calculating visibility. Just because I can see light doesn't mean it's that much visibility. Not seeing the Mud Tunnel line from Table Rock tells me visibility wasn't that good. However, the way I calculate visibility is how far my buddy can be before I can no longer interpret a lit up hand signal. If we can't communicate from 20 feet apart then the visibility is less than 20 feet even if I can see my buddy's outline. It's a safety thing.
Well, y'all can quit picking on Russell, I was in LR this morning, and 20' would be generous, with a lot of particulate, and high flow. At least it is open.
I am just curious about the vis changing so much between Saturday and Sunday......think the flow picking up started to move the sediment deposits off the walls ????
I had a class at Little River yesterday, the viz was about 20 feet....water temp ranged from 65-68 degrees. Was very silty, easily disturbed.
this time!
Ditto on the vis, lots of particulate in the water to start with, stirred up easy. Pull and Pull. It was a fun dive. Now less dusty because I feel it is my duty to dust caves. LOL Cindy
THAT was the particulate I kicked up from Saturday...Must have kicked up a LOT (EEK)
Beano
P.S. The vis wasn't all THAT BAD...The flow wasn't all that wicked...It actually wasn't bad on Saturday. And I was even SIDEMOUNTING (DOUBLE EEK)...
Well , if you can call what I do sidemounting... (smile)
