Dive out post is under 60 minn away, rent extra tanks if needed make it a 2 dive day, we dove it Sat flow was down and vis was 100% better that april 09
Yep, either "cave country", Gainesville, or Williston would be the closest. Extra tanks are your best bet.
It's only 31 miles to Cave Excursions East, and 35 miles to Amigos.
Bird's Underwater is about 40 minutes south on 19 in Crystal River.
The ticket for 90mph on those roads would pay for a trimix fill... I think I'll stick to CEE for gas at manatee...
Don't know... Everytime I have been there he fills to around 3k. Admittedly I have only been there three times (2900/3100/3100) and never asked for a better fill.
I try to have a fill before I head out and only get fills if I forgot, or was doing another dive. But he is on the way from Tampa.
I looked at Birds website trying to find hours but they werent listed. I did see the first and reccommended tour goes out at 615 so I figured they would be open.
At 830 this Sunday I arrived and they were closed.
There was a guy (That I know works there) on their boat smoking and he said they didnt open till 9.
None the less Fred had a set of tanks for me so I went on. When I arrived at Manatee I saw a business card for some dive shop in old town. They only had one card so I didnt want to take the last one but it seemed closer then Crystal river.
Nothing against Bird's, but CEE is just over half as far (32 miles versus 53, according to MapQuest). :smt102
Yeah, be really careful on those County roads up there!
One morning on my way from Lake City to Peacock this past December, I happen to encounter a 4-way Trooper Trap sitting on all sides of the intersection of CR-252 and Sand Hill Road. Since there wasn't a whole lot of traffic, they were stopping everyone that came up to the intersection for a "spot check" inspection (driver's license, lights etc., and while being inspected, one car in the background would probably run your plates if needed).
No harm/foul, and it took maybe 25-30 seconds. Amazing, since I was driving my own car (with NJ plates)
Do we have any reason to??? ;-)
And it is a great place to stay when diving. It is set up to accomodate divers with outside lockers and drying racks. I stayed there with a couple of other people a few weeks back. The amenities are great and it has 3 beds, 2 baths, and a full kitchen! Thanks Michael Angelo!
CEE is a stone's throw from Chateau H2O....I didn't mapquest it, but have stayed there. And a very nice place to stay too.

On a similar note, is amigos still th closest cart? I heard manatee had a cart like jug, but can't find info online. Anyone know?
I've never seen a cart at manatee, we usually have to huff it from the parking lot.
