No, but it would take a heck of a lot or rain to blow out the Jug hole. I have dived there durnig some major floods, and it was still clear, with fairly high flow.Quote:

Any one else know of the opposite...if so, it must have been a GIGANTIC flood, like the one that almost covered the interstate near Lake City back in the 70's....and even then, as the aquifers were in much better shape, volume-wise, I doubt if it backed up the Santa Fe enough to flood all the way back up the Itch, considering all the other springs besides Jugg and the headspring pushing back.
We were there on Sun. 1/31/10. Vis as usual was 100 ft flow still pretty strong at cave entrance squeezed through diamond sands restriction but buddy had hard time getting through so we turned the dive. My favorite dive hopefully I can find another sidemounter who can squeeze through so I can go further in the system.

The trick there (second restriction) is just to lift your left tank up over the rock. Then no problem (unless you put an extra weight on your weightbelt :roll: )

about 170 of twisted line was replaced with nice new braided line. One T. We'll get survey data when they re-open in the fall.
I stayed behind because we weren't sure if there would be enough room. Also, with my inflator hose on the top of my wing, it was difficult to fit. Flow through the restriction is very tight.
I've made a rough sketch of the tunnel on the jug map, but need to have my buddy verify that it is somewhat correct. I didn't count knots the whole way in, so if th 300' arrow isn't about 300' feet from the entrance, my sketch will be in the wrong spot...

FYI the cart was in real bad shape, I think someone was trying to haul too much crap with it on the way back a wheel broke. We are learning "the dance" of the restrictions so we are getting in easier and faster each time and back out easier and faster as well, right now my limitation is gas as we turn BEFORE I 3rds but as we learn how to pass certain areas it gets "easier" as we dont' have to sit and study the spot first if that makes sense, its a bummer we have to leave this week :-(
My buddy and I are joking that we are out here to cave dive but we are just caving instead.
There are several "holes" all over the place, we just don't have enough time to check them all out!!! People need to be careful, I was in a spot where I could not turn around and I could not go backwards as the tank bottoms were getting caught, I had to take them off and drag them out as I wiggled backwards, all while staying on the line :-)
For you skinny guys maybe this stuff isn't a big deal but we are some texas boys pushing 220lbs or so :-)
Ive been thru the second restriction, silver sand I think, but my buddy couldnt fit so we turned the dive. Havent been to the end yet and probably wont get the chance till end of season.
The second restriction is NOTHING like the stuff I'm refering to above, my buddy and I cleared the diamond sands while carrying a stage without missing a beat or even slowing down. The restrictions I'm refering too your not going to get into it with a nomad on unless your REALLY REALLY REALLY skinny and have an interest in destroying year gear.Quote:

Stairman, the restriction is "diamond sands," and the trick is to lift up your left tank, or turn on your side just a bit to clear.

What lock was on the cart? Last time we were there, somehow the nice brass one had gone missing. We left a silver combo lock there with the ranger incase the brass one didn't makeit's way back to the cart, but never heard if it had reappeared or not.
Similarly, we found the cart missing a lynchpin on a side, we repaired it with cave line. The cart sees a lot of abuse, unfortunately.
I'm hoping/assuming it will get removed during the non diving season, so it doesn't get destroyed by swimmers?
Nice job on the new line. If you get time you might want to replace the line on the right side of the tee. It is old and Woody Jasper said he put it in there 15 years ago. We probabaly will not have time to reline it. We are just getting to really know the cave or as my British friends say we are still in the "fuckabout" stage.Quote:

The brass lock is back. The new cart is rated for 1000 lbs. The old one was rated for 600 lbs. Hopefully it will last a little longer. I will ask Wayne to reomove the cart during the non-diving season.
