Housing in High Springs area?

A friend and I will be joining a third for a cave class there in August. I know that somewhere there is a thread about High Springs housing, but I can't remember which board it's on, and would like some more specific recommendations anyway. What I'd like to find is someplace all three of us can stay, with some food storage or even a kitchen, and with laundry facilities. (I've learned the hard way that access to a dryer can be critical on a cave diving trip :) ) I understand there are some houses in the area that are rented to cave divers -- anybody have any specific place they like, or information about rates?

I have stayed at Anita Berman's place... Diverscottage.com It has been a couple of years, and I can't seem to get the link to work but it was nice. Convenient to the caves from Peacock to Ginnie. Full kitchen, laundry, ample sleeping accommodations.

I have also stayed at Chateau H2O. Michaelangelo's place, more convenient to Ginnie. Full kitchen, laundry.

Either of these two I can personally vouch for. There are other places that look good as well, but I have not stayed there.

I have a new place in Ft. White that is just 5 mins. from Amigos and just a few minutes from High Springs. The home is only 3 years old and has wireless internet, Sat. TV, barbeque, gourmet kitchen, etc. etc.

My buddy and I stayed at the Garage Apt which is owned by the same people as Cave East. Very comfortable and no complaints. I believe you can arrange rental through Cave East

Randy, I looked at your website and your place looks lovely, but it's booked the same week we are coming (the 8th through the 16th) as is Michael Angelo's cottage. Is there something going on in cave country that week that we didn't know about when we scheduled our class?

you can also check caveexcursions.com they have rental trailers, and there is a washer and dryer at cave excursions for divers to use. they are all by Peacock Springs, so depending on who your instructor is, and cave conditions, you may check it out. They are about 45 minutes from Ginnie.

Don't know about anything special going on. We have a large group coming out together from Utah to dive, but I'm surprised there will be that many people headed to Florida at the hottest part of the summer!

There is always the Cadillac, or the High Springs Country Inn. There are also other motels and even a bed and breakfast in town.

Try www.cavediveflorida.com Jim has a really nice double wide with lots of room and it is secluded and quiet.

I've stayed at the high springs country inn, and will again. it's just a motel (with fridge, microwave, coffeepot), but it's clean and cheap. Good for one or two and they like having divers (don't mind the gear hanging everywhere).

One of Rennaker's trailers, Michalangelo's H20, etc., are nice too, if you don't care about TV (dvd's only), and want a full kitchen, living room, etc. With four us, H20 was nice to sit around kitchen table studying for class - with food in the oven and a cave dvd playing.

Chateau H2O now has high speed wireless internet and DishTv for a year now as well as a new shaded patio. Not bad for $100 a night

I've stayed at the HSCI before, and it's fine, but I'd really like a kitchen for breakfasts and packing lunches, and a dryer is critical.

I've got e-mails out to a couple more of your ideas, and I really appreciate the information.

Jim Wyatt has a trailer with a full kitchen. He didn't have a washer/dryer when I was there in January but he may have added them since. www.cavediveflorida.com

If I must be at Ginnie Springs, I usually camp at Ginnie Springs. This is fine in winter, but less good in summer when Ginnie is overrun with tubers.
If I'm diving Peacock, I stay at the Dive Outpost. They have private rooms and a bunkroom. Both come with kitchen privileges and access to the internet and a great video library. Dive Outpost also has a dive shop. The owner, Cathy Lek, is an almost retired cave diver full of good advice.

Give Wayne at Amigos a call. He rents out several places in close proximity to High Springs. Sorry I couldn't help you this time around. Maybe next time!

What about divers den? I've only heard of it, never stayed, but the website won't work on my work computer due to active content (which the gov't doesn't like). I'll check it out at home but vaguely recall someone telling me they stayed there and it was kinda nice and social atmosphere.

I've stayed nowhere but HSCI. I guess I should expand my horizons at some point :)
