Me and my wife - kids have lost their desire to go to the socials as they have gotten older - I guess last Winter was the last one for them.

Details? Where will this event be held?
I will not be going to the social because the last time i went i felt like an outsider. I am not a shy person and tried to talk to a few people and i guess that because i wasn't in the click i didn't warrant talking to. I do know a few people on the cdf and they are great people. I am not writing this to envoke anyone feeling bad for me because i have a great bunch of friends that i cave dive with. I always try to make new friends where ever i go but i will say that the cdf social was one of the most uncomfortable social gatherings that i have ever been to. If i offended any one i am sorry!!! I just wanted to write this so if you go to the social and see a new face go and talk to that person you never know you might make a new friend.
I kind of felt the same way till I saw Sludge, but that was pretty late. I really didnt see anyone else I knew, Forrest left early I heard. I swear I seen him at Woodstock. I think a volleyball net, horseshoes, pin the tail on the donkey or something might look more inviting. Ill come this year if the wife goes to Daytona, she does not like socials unless its a quilting bee or something that interests her. Theres another activity for us.
Bob, 2 maybe's....
- whats the lowdown on diving at Lafayette..? Or is this more entirely a social event..?
-Tim
We expect some people to dive LB, but others will dive Peacock or Little River or Cow or wherever in the morning, then attend the social for several hours, then dive somewhere else in the afternoon.
I'm going to give LB a shot.
FYI-Lafayette Blue has installed some great "cabins" that look more like condos. If you are looking for a place to stay, then try these.
Guys, I am hoping to be over that way doing some work, so I will take an extra week and maybe fit in the social. It would be great to meet some of you guys I have heard loads stories about some of yea and it be great to put a face and a hand shake to them. I always seem to miss these socials so maybe fingers crossed I will make this one.
I'd love to come---however we're booked for Chuuk Lagoon July 4 so will be far away. See you all at the CDS workshop???
Best,
Barbara
Wow,
Looks like we only need to buy a couple of packs of buns so far!
We might have to broaden our advertising!
He didn't say to "have" crablegs...just advertise them ;)
Sure we have crablegs, they're right here - ooooh, the cat's just eaten them.
(Monty Python, The Cheese Shop)
"Predictable, really I suppose. It was an act of purest optimism to have posed the question in the first place. Tell me: Have you in fact got any crab legs here at all?
"No, sir. I was deliberately wasting your time."
"Well, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to shoot you."
If I didn't live 1450 miles away, I'd be there irrespective of the presence or absence of crab legs. I need to get closer to cave country!
Mike
crayfish boil? that'll get my attention. you can keep the crablegs (either frozen for the trip from alaska - yuck - or too dang skinny to be of any use).
but if the blue crab ever make a come back, a bucket of whole steamers would get my attention! I was way-laid a few years back by the lure of raw oysters, steamed blue crab and buckets of beer at a little place in appalachicola (forget the name, right on the river, north side of highway, west side of bridge). never did make it to cave country that trip...; didn't regret it either!

Crablegs and yuk doesnt belong in the same sentence. Those water bugs your talkin about are all head. A 4 inch crawfish with a 1 inch tail to eat is a bummer. I guess some suck the heads and get a little more, not me.
It wouldn't take too many of those Merritt's Mill Pond crayfish to make a meal - they're enormous!
